BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION:
The P ZC T&D OPERATIONS Department of the P T&D OPERATIONS Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Management vacancy available. (Role: Professional Supervisor)
JOB FUNCTION:
Supervises, directs, and monitors the activities of the division's work group to ensure safe, timely and cost-effective completion of the construction, installation, inspection, and maintenance of transmission and distribution facilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Supervises, directs, and monitors workforce activities to ensure safe, cost-effective construction, installation, inspection and maintenance of overhead and underground transmission and distribution facilities. This includes administrative functions such as preparing performance appraisals, conducting interviews, reviewing timecards, etc.
Plans, schedules and conducts meetings (including safety, training, informational, etc.) to encourage/foster lines of communication between various levels of the workforce and to maintain, increase and/or improve workforce knowledge and skills; manages performance of employees, trains and develops personnel towards an effective and skilled workforce.
Analyzes work packages to establish and coordinate project requirements, works with crew leaders to pre-check, schedule, make appropriate contacts, hold-offs, arrange for tools and equipment etc. and works with customers, internal and external, to satisfy expectations; resolves customer issues and builds constructive relationships.
Assists in the planning, initiation, direction and monitoring of all divisional activities and programs to ensure that company/department goals and objectives are achieved.
Assists in the development, monitoring and analyzing of the division’s annual Operating Forecast to meet company/department goals and objectives. Responds to callouts and /or other emergencies as required.
Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge Requirements
Thorough knowledge of the construction, installation, and maintenance standards and practices of overhead and underground transmission and distribution system.
Good working knowledge of electrical transmission and distribution systems.
Good working knowledge of planning/scheduling/estimating concepts and principles.
Working knowledge of policies and procedures contained in such documents as Company/Union agreement; Accident Prevention Manual; General Information Manual, etc.
Knowledge of personal computers and/or mainframe systems and related software applications (i.e., spreadsheets, word processing, database management, etc.).
Skills Requirements
Supervisory/leadership skills including effective written, oral and listening communication skills; conflict resolution skills; the ability to work with a variety of individuals; and the willingness and ability train.
Ability to remain flexible in a demanding work environment and adapt to rapidly changing priorities.
Ability to handle difficult and/or sensitive issues while using tact, courtesy and discretion.
Analytical and administrative skills required for such tasks as preparing and monitoring estimates/forecasts; preparing performance appraisals and conducting interviews; and carrying out company/department policies and procedures.
Must have or be able to qualify for State of Hawaii driver’s license and HECO driver’s license in order to travel to various field sites to inspect and monitor operations.
Must be willing and able to be transported by helicopters.
Experience Requirements
Crew leader qualified and or held leadership roles in the construction, installation, and maintenance of transmission and distribution facilities.
Multiple (5-7) years of field experience in the construction, installation, and maintenance of transmission and distribution facilities.
OR
Extensive (7+) years of design experience in the construction, installation, and maintenance of transmission and distribution facilities.
