**911 COMMUNICATIONS DISPATCHER
POSITION DESCRIPTION:**
Under supervision of the Communications Manager and Supervisors, performs highly responsible, specialized work involving receiving, screening and dispatching emergency and non-emergency calls through the communications systemUses the emergency 911 computer systems and dispatches Police, Fire and EMS vehicles/personnel to emergency and non-emergency requests for assistance based on zone assignment and availabilityDispatches utility and street crews as necessaryAccurately and efficiently initiates appropriate City, County, State and Federal police, fire and medical assistance based on zone assignment and availabilityInterprets policies, procedures and standards and applies to each unique set of circumstancesWorks within the scope of established laws, rules, regulations and procedures of the Police DepartmentExercises considerable judgment and initiative when requiredAbility to work 12-hour shifts, weekends, and holidaysPerforms related work as directed.
SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or GEDDemonstrated ability to follow and clearly provide complex written and oral instructions with a high degree of accuracy and responsibility under stressful conditionsMust successfully pass Dispatcher Written TestingWhile employed, must complete all training and requirements for State and National EMD, NCIC, CPR, Basic Dispatch, and TDD CertificationsMust possess a valid driver licenseExcellent computer, documentation and spelling skills
