Position Overview:
The Middle East Institute (MEI) is searching for a
Communications Assistant, with 1-2 years of experience
preferably that includes experience managing social media platforms with a large following. The successful candidate will be creative, a team player, have a passion for digital storytelling, and work against tight deadlines.
The Communications Assistant will report directly to the Director of Digital Communications. This position will support MEI's communications efforts by creating digital content and supporting MEI's media relations. The Communications Assistant will work closely with our policy experts and Development team to help execute MEI's communications strategies and advance MEI's mission of promoting knowledge and understanding about the Middle East.
Essential Responsibilities:
The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Produce and edit digital video explainers Manage and edit engaging content for all social media platforms Identify compelling stories based on content produced by MEI's policy experts Help lead a social media strategy aimed at expanding MEI's audience base Manage digital content around a calendar of major events Support media relations by maintaining media lists Support photography efforts when needed Other duties as assigned Qualifications
1-2 years of experience in digital communications Excellent writing and editing skills Familiarity with Middle East policy issues Adobe Creative Cloud skills (Premier Pro, InDesign, and Photoshop) Willingness to learn backend website management Interest in international news Ability to simplify complex issues and disseminate them through digital platforms Passion for storytelling Bachelor's degree in journalism, international relations, or a relevant field What we offer:
