Ambulatory Operations and Informatics Specialist

Position Summary / Career Interest:The Ambulatory Informatics and Operations Specialist applies informatics knowledge and collaborates with Operational Leadership, end users of the electronic health record (EHR) Revenue Cycle, and IT staff to develop and drive adoption of standard workflows, assess usability and recommend optimizations. Serves as the informatics lead on small to medium ambulatory projects. Executes these projects by leading the operational and informatics workflow analysis, design, build, testing, communication, KPI development and escalation of barriers prior to an after go-live. Understands key operational goals and drives optimizations towards those goals.
Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
Leads small/medium department focused projects. Demonstrates an in-depth understanding of clinic systems. Executes these projects by leading operational and informatics workflow analysis, design, build, testing, communication plans, KPI development and escalation of barriers prior to and after go-live. Ensures standard workflows are implemented at go-live. Follows system life cycle and transformation standards. Guides project team members on driving changes through technology governance bodies.Understands regulatory, compliance and quality standards of EHR documentation. Utilizes this knowledge to modify and optimize standard work and change system build.Rounds in clinics to understand operational workflows. Participates in ambulatory EHR optimization efforts ensuring ambulatory operational goals and compliance standards are met. Provides change management knowledge to teammates and operational leaders.Researches and advises leadership on best practices utilizing benchmarking resources including, but not limited to, Epic User Web, GPIN, MGMA and the Access Collaborative. Able to apply knowledge gained to further operational goals.Participates in the distributive build program. Supports user level personalization and expanded distributed builder scope. Triages optimization requests obtaining necessary build requirements to assist with navigation. Ensures those requests that are triaged meet operational goals and direction.Establishes relationships with ambulatory department and division leadership, physicians, and allied health staff.Collaborates with departments across the health system including information technology, revenue cycle, operations, and organization leadership to execute changes to standard work. Utilizes knowledge gained to review, analyze, and optimize the patient and user experience by applying informatics principles that further operational goals.Utilizes Lean methodologies (PDCA, SOP Documentations, etc.) to document standards and increase ambulatory efficiency. Identifies opportunities for adoption of standard workflow and removes clinic barriers to adoption. Ensures a consistent experience for patients, providers, and staff. Escalates to ambulatory or information technology as appropriate.Coaching and mentoring of team members.Updates ambulatory informatics and operations program standard documents at direction of team leads and leadership.Certification or proficiency in assigned Epic application, or demonstrated learning of other assigned application, must be obtained within 6 months of employment or assignment.Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.These statements are intended to describe the essential functions of the job and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities. Required Education and Experience
Bachelors Degree3 or more years of informatics experience3 or more years direct patient care experience; literature search/review experience
Required Licensure and Certification
Professional Clinical License or Certification in Kansas or MissouriEPIC Proficiency/Certification within 6 months of orientation completion as designated by role requirements within 180 DaysDriver's License
Knowledge Requirements
Demonstrates knowledge of computers and desktop softwareAbility to work autonomously, by demonstrating self-motivation and creativityGood communication, writing, organizational and presentation skillsAbility to effectively interact with multidisciplinary teams including physicians, administrative staff, clinical personnel, and peersDemonstrates persistence to solving problems.
