As the Director of Finance, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the financial health, sustainability, and growth of our organization. You will be responsible for overseeing all financial operations, managing budgets, providing strategic financial insights, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations. This is a 12 month position that is supervised by the Chief Operating Officer.
Core Responsibilities:
Financial Strategy:
Develop and execute financial strategies aligned with the BCN's mission and goals, contributing to the long-term sustainability and growth of the network.Conduct financial analyses, identify trends, risks, and opportunities, and provide actionable insights to support strategic decision-making.
Budget Planning & Financial Reporting:
Lead the annual budgeting process, working collaboratively with heads of schools, department budget owners, the COO and CEO to create accurate and comprehensive budgets that support effective resource allocation.Prepare and present accurate and timely financial reports and analyses to the leadership team, heads of school, department budget owners, and the board of directors to facilitate informed decision-making.
Financial Operations:
Oversee day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, grant management and procurement, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and adherence to best practices.Monitor cash flow, manage liquidity, and forecast financial needs to ensure the availability of funds for operational requirements and strategic initiatives.
Financial Compliance
Establish and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard financial assets, prevent fraud, and maintain the integrity of financial transactions.Coordinate and manage the annual audit process, collaborating with external auditors and ensuring compliance with accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and internal policies.Collaborate with the COO, Chief of Staff, and department budget owners utilizing grant funding to manage grant finances, track funding sources, and ensure compliance with grant requirements.
Team Leadership
Lead and manage the third party accounting team, providing clear direction, guidance, and mentorship to ensure the successful execution of finance operations and initiatives.Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment that encourages continuous learning and professional growth.
Stakeholder Communication
Communicate regularly with heads of school, department budget owners, and other stakeholders to provide updates on BCN's financial position.Provide financial expertise and contribute to the overall strategic direction of the organization.
Additional responsibilities:
Work cooperatively with other departments in responding to schools' requests for finance-related needs.Serve as a member of the Central Operations TeamPerform all duties within the parameters of federal, state, local laws and regulations and BCN policies and procedures, including federal procurement and internal purchasing policies.Other duties as assigned by supervisorSkills and Abilities:
Proficiency in financial management software, accounting systems, and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities, with the capacity to explain financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.High level of integrity, ethical standards, and a commitment to transparency.Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, and collaborative environment.Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines.Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.Minimum of 3 years of financial leadership experience, with a demonstrated track record of successfully managing financial operations in a complex environment.Experience within the education sector, particularly charter schools or non-profit organizationStrong understanding of financial principles, accounting standards, and regulatory compliance.
