Overview

The Behavioral Health Clinician (BHC) position is a behavioral health provider who works in a consultative role, providing behavioral health interventions to patients in Gender Care Services, with a primary focus on transgender services.

The Behavioral Health Clinician (BHC) is an integral member of the care team whose role is to help address a broad spectrum of behavioral health needs, with a special focus in the gender diverse and transgender patient population. Their goal is to aid in early identification and provide problem focused interventions as needed that promote both wellness and long-term prevention. The BHC provides consultative services for behavioral health issues in the form of assessment, management, and triage of psychological and social concerns in this unique clinic patient population.

This position requires advanced level skill in delivering evidence-based interventions targeted to improve overall health for patients with a variety of emotional and behavioral issues. The work includes the BHC meeting with patients individually for an assessment and then providing recommendations to the care team to enhance the patient's care plan. When indicated, the BHC may also work with patients for several subsequent sessions to provide on-going skills training and coaching to improve health and functioning. The BHC will also support a smooth coordination of care with community partners for patients who require services not provided in the Gender Care Services Clinic.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:Doctor of Psychology (PhD or PsyD), Master of Social Work, Master in Professional Counseling, and/or Master of Family Therapy degree from a nationally accredited institution, fulfilling the requirements for licensure in the state of Oregon and/or Washington. Will also consider Master of Social Work degree from an accredited School of Social Work.

Experience:Minimum of two years of clinical experience or healthcare related field. Preferred experience with trauma informed care and gender diverse patients.

Licensure/Certification:Oregon and/or Washington Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) or Clinical Social Work Associate (CSWA working toward LCSW).

SKILLS:Screen for common mental health problems. Able to conduct Cognitive-Behavioral or solution focused interventions. Recognizes and advocates for patients regarding behavioral health strategies/interventions to the referring and/or medical provider. Promotes health behavior change through evaluation, brief intervention, and education. Works with multidisciplinary team to help support the patient’s health. Coordinates with Legacy providers and community partners to refer for appropriate mental health therapy.

Demonstrates competencies in assessment of emotional, cognitive, and behavioral disorders. Demonstrates competencies in gender evaluation and gender dysphoria diagnosis. Demonstrates competency in assessment cognitive and psychological problems associated with, and/or exacerbating medical conditions. Demonstrates competency in assessing patients and writing letters of support for affirming interventions according to WPATH Standards of Care, version 8. Experience using motivational interviewing, skills in conducting group and individual psycho/social education classes desirable.
