Sr / Lead DevOps Engineer
Office hybrid in San Francisco, CA or McLean, VA
Our Technology, Marketing & Products Engineering team is tasked with innovating and maintaining a substantial distributed systems engineering platform that ships hundreds of features to production for tens of millions of users across all industries every day. Our users count on our platform to be highly reliable, lightning fast, and supremely secure, preserving all of their customizations and integrations every time we ship.
Your Impact:
You’ll develop observability and telemetry services and tools.
You’ll brainstorm with Product Owners and Engineers on your team and organization to conceptualize and build new features for our large (and growing!) user base.
You’ll produce high-quality results by contributing heavily to team projects that have a significant impact on the business.
You’ll actively own team features or systems and define their long-term health, while also improving the health of surrounding systems.
You’ll improve engineering standards, tooling, and processes.
You’ll demonstrate a sense of autonomy for ownership of your areas and proactively take accountability for progress forward.
You’ll create and maintain detailed documentation.
You’ll participate in the team’s on-call rotation to address sophisticated problems in real time and keep services operational and highly available.
You’ll design, develop, deploy, and enhance automation to reliably manage the observability platform infrastructure.
You’ll code review, mentor junior engineers, and provide technical guidance to the team (depending on the seniority level).
Requirements:
A related technical degree required.
5+ years of professional development experience and capable of developing in a Cloud-based environment and implementing DevOps best practices.
3+ years deploying distributed apps with containers (Docker) & orchestration (Kubernetes, EKS, GKE).
3+ years of proven ability working within and building on public cloud (AWS, GCP, Azure).
3+ years of Linux system engineering experience.
5+ years of working experience in programming languages (Java, Python, Golang).
3+ years experience with Maven/Gradle/Ant builds.
3+ years experience deploying with CI/CD orchestration services (Jenkins, Spinnaker).
A continuous learner and a critical thinker.
Excellent verbal communication and technical documentation skills.
Preferred Skills:
Experience in observability tools like Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, CloudWatch, Zabbix, etc.
Experience with Log Management and Analytics tools such as Splunk, Loki, Tableau, Grafana.
Experience in open-source technologies like HBase, Hadoop, Kafka, Spark, Presto, Hive, Airflow.
Strong SQL skills and experience with relational and non-relational databases (Postgres/Oracle/Redshift/Mongo).
Experience providing Production Operations support in a 7x24x365 environment.
