The CEO reports to the Board of Directors.

CEO salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Provide visionary and strategic leadership for HopeWorks, overseeing the development and implementation of its mission, vision, values, and goals.

Collaborate with the board of directors and staff to develop the organization's mission, vision, values, and goals, and implement a strategic plan to ensure our long-term sustainability and impact.

Working with the board of directors and management team, develop a timeline to implement and monitor progress toward the strategic plan.

Oversee programs and operations

Evaluate and enhance the quality of our programs and services to ensure that they meet high standards of excellence and best practices in serving our clients.

Ensure that our programs adhere to the standards and requirements of funding sources and follow compliance regulations.

Monitor and evaluate the organization's operations and systems to ensure compliance with all legal, contractual, and ethical obligations, and with HopeWorks’ own policies, procedures, and codes of conduct.

Explore and consider new opportunities and innovations for existing programming.

Anticipate and develop succession plans for key management staff.

Supervise financial management of the organization

Work with financial and accounting staff to ensure legal fiscal practices that keep the organization within budget and financial health parameters.

Maintain HopeWorks’ financial controls to safeguard cash flow and evaluate general financial sustainability.

Prepare and submit an annual budget for the board of directors by June 1 of each year.

Development and public communication

Serve as the primary spokesperson and representative for HopeWorks to cultivate positive relationships with donors, partners, stakeholders, elected officials, media, and the public.

Maintain an effective development and public communication department to ensure the sustainability of our services to clients and the community.

Apply for local, state, national, and foundation funding, and maintain effective oversight, management, and reporting for grants and contracts.

Cultivate, educate, and communicate regularly with individual and corporate donors.

Develop collaborative partnerships with similar agencies to ensure a greater network of ideas, resources, and overall impact within the community.

Develop and maintain effective communication within HopeWorks

Establish and sustain an ethical working environment to encourage open communication, trust, honesty, diversity and inclusion, mutual accountability, and professional growth.

Establish and maintain regular effective communication and collaboration with the board of directors in its governance role, providing timely and accurate information and reports on the organization’s operations and challenges.

Advocate for the rights and interests of the unhoused within legal regulations for a 501c3 organization

Advocate for legislation and policy priorities with local, state, and nationally elected officials, including public representatives, community leaders, and key stakeholders.

Cultivate and sustain collaborative relationships with advocacy groups to educate, address challenges, identify solutions, and leverage a collective voice.

Serve on appropriate public committees and consult with other providers, government agencies, and community partners.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Commitment to HopeWorks' mission and vision to understand and heal homelessness.

Strong leadership skills – inspire and lead with respect, compassion, and collaboration.

Bachelor’s degree in a humans-services-related field and/or a business-related field.

5+ years of nonprofit leadership experience with demonstrated ability to lead and inspire.

5+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, donor relations, grants and contracts.

Solid, hands-on, budget management skills including budget preparation, analysis, decision making, fiscal control, and reporting.

Experience working with diverse members of the community including service agencies, behavioral health providers, and elected officials.

Demonstrated success with board relations, governance, and development.

Strong written and oral communication skills including public speaking.

Knowledge of applicable laws, standards, and regulations.

Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.

Thorough knowledge of administering contracts with governmental agencies, Medicaid, Medicare, and other funding sources.

Strong organizational abilities including planning, delegating, and program development.

Ability to collaborate with and motivate donors, community partners, board members, and legislators.

Respect, appreciation for, and ability to work with diverse groups.

Strong skills and experience using software such as Google Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.).

Ability to travel occasionally to collaborate with community partners, funders, and meet with elected officials.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Master of Business Administration, Public Administration, or Human Services/Social Work.

Strong background in behavioral health, human services, and/or social work and knowledge of managed care, particularly in behavioral health.

Knowledge of human resource management best practices.

Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) credential.

Understanding of and experience with unhoused people (possibly including lived experience).

Skill with de-escalation of conflict.
