Job Summary:Provide technical research support to Principal Investigator and Co-Investigators in the Health Disparities and Public Policy Program (HDPP). The program, housed in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences, is conducting 2 major studies:
The Northwestern Juvenile Project, a 30-year longitudinal research study of the needs and outcomes of youth in juvenile detention (now median age 43); and Next Generation, a longitudinal intergenerational study of original Northwestern Juvenile Project participants and their children, examining factors that promote resilience in children.Primary duties include: conducting literature searches and preparing literature tables; synthesizing information and preparing memos summarizing findings from scholarly publications in support of grant applications, presentations, and manuscripts; helping to prepare materials for research presentations (PowerPoint); and researching interview measures.To be considered for this position, please include a cover letter addressing how your relevant research experience aligns with the expectations of this position.Full-Time: Standard M-F schedule, hybrid 3 days per week in our Chicago office is required.Completes all activities by strictly all relevant current local, state, and federal laws, regulations, guidance, policy & procedure developed by the NU Institutional Review Board (IRB), and Code of Federal Regulations (CFR).Specific Responsibilities:TechnicalParticipates in the planning & conduct of research study including participant recruitment and retention.Collects, compiles, tabulates & processes responses.Gathers information.AdministrationCollects, records, reviews & summarizes research data.Collates relevant mathematical results & prepares tables, charts & graphsCompletes documents associated with current local, state, & federal regulatory guidelines, requirements, laws & research protocols.SupervisionPerforms other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications: (Education, experience, and any other certifications or clearances)Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a major such as social or health science or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience and 2 years' research study or other relevant experience required; ORSuccessful completion of a full course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a master's or higher degree in a major such as social or health science or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.Must complete NU's IRB CITI training before interacting with any participants & must re-certify every 3 years.Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)Strong Microsoft operating system skills, including intermediate to advanced use of Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and ZoomAbility to identify, research, and solve problemsStrong technical writing skillsDemonstrated ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and balance short- and long-term projectsStrong oral and written communication skillsKeen attention to detail and strong organizational skillsPreferred Qualifications: (Education and experience)Experience working with empirical research studiesExperience working in higher educationExperience conducting literature searches and reviewsPreferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)Excellent writing and editing skillsTarget hiring range for this position will be between $19.89 to $27.97 per hour.
