The Washington State Senate is hiring session aides to provide office support to offices of Republican Senators during the 2025 legislative session. This full-time and temporary position will begin on or about January 6, 2025, and will conclude on or around April 27, 2025. The Session Aide reports to the Senator and their Legislative Assistant.Responsibilities
Serve as first point of contact for office by answering phones and greeting office guestsTake meetings with constituents, lobbyists, and advocacy organizations on behalf of the Office of the SenatorDraft correspondence and respond to e-mails, physical mail, and hotline inquiries according to office proceduresCommunicate with constituents about legislationProvide state-related case work assistance to constituentsTrack progression of Senator’s bills through the legislative process, including following up on committee hearingsMaintain office records in accordance with the Washington State Public Records ActConduct research to respond appropriately to constituent inquiries and follow each through to conclusionGain skills in other legislative processes and work as time and training allowsQualifications
A successful candidate will have:Administrative experience and knowledge of general office practicesA passion for public serviceKnowledge of or interest in learning about the legislative processAn ability to work collaboratively with others and effectively interact with individuals from diverse backgroundsStrong communication and organizational skills with attention to detailAn ability to exercise professional judgment, discretion, and confidentialityHigh comfort level working in a fast-paced environmentExperience with Microsoft Office Suite programs and familiarity with video conference software such as Microsoft Teams and ZoomThis position works in-person in Olympia during the legislative session. The hours for this position are 8 am - 5 pm, Monday through Friday.This is a temporary position eligible for paid sick leave, bereavement leave, and access to the Employee Assistance Program.About the Organization
The Washington State Legislature is a bicameral body comprised of the Senate and the House of Representatives. The Legislature meets annually in the Capitol Building in Olympia beginning on the second Monday in January.
