Key Responsibilities

United’s Catering and Inflight mobile technology team focuses on providing the best onboard experience in the industry. In order for our Flight Attendants to provide a stellar onboard experience, they need the right tools with the right information at the right time. Customers who have an enjoyable experience onboard are more likely to fly United again and recommend United to a friend. This role has a huge opportunity to drive revenue and customer experience at United Airlines.

This role has responsibility for several applications that run our catering organization including the planning, supply chain, operation, and delivery of catering products to customers and crew members. In addition, this role has responsibility for all systems and initiatives that are used by our flight attendants for onboard service delivery including their mobile device and mobile apps that are used for onboard sales, service, and safety. Finally, the leader in this role will have full responsibility for defining the transformation of these systems as we evolve our culinary experience at the airline.

Strategy and vision

Develop and adapt a multi-year application development strategy in line with corporate and IT goals.

Stay informed of business strategy and performance and understand business processes to recommend IT improvements.

Communication and partner management

Establish and maintain strong business relationships with senior and operating-level business leaders to communicate strategy, goals, and program updates.

Project delivery and technology management

Lead and supervise projects to ensure delivery of projects are within the committed budget, on schedule, and the quality of individual projects meets the overall department performance goals.

Aligning with business partners on delivery success criteria and ensuring technology solutions follow architectural standards and security requirements.

Develop project governance including status reporting.

Ensure reliability and stability of applications.

Advance and assist in resolving issues related to technology solution delivery.

Leadership

Empower, mentor, and develop team members.

Establish department and individual goals, including performance reviews and career and performance plans.

Assess and recommend improvements to the organizational structure, roles, and responsibilities.

This role is Hybrid out of Chicago or Houston.

Qualifications

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

Bachelor's degree.

10+ years of experience.

7+ years of application development experience.

5+ years of management experience in an IT or leadership-related role

Requires sophisticated technical and business knowledge in software development life cycle, quality assurance, project management, and other related fields/processes.

In-depth understanding of application development processes, methodologies, and lifecycle management.

Familiarity with new technologies, including cloud services, software architecture, and cybersecurity practices.

Knowledge of financial principles to manage budgets, forecast costs, and deliver cost-effective solutions. ·

Excellent communication skills to optimally liaise with technical teams and business leaders. ·

Ability to build positive relationships with internal and external partners, vendors, and service providers. ·

Collaboration skills to work across different departments and champion a team-oriented environment.

What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):

Master’s degree.

Experience with Agile development.

Experience with cloud delivery.

Experience in application development delivery of med-large scale projects/programs.

Experience in airline technology experience is a plus.
