This role will develop clinical decision support (CDS) content using national standards such as Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPG)-on-FHIR (https://hl7.org/fhir/uv/cpg/). This CDS content powers applications to help clinicians order the most effective and appropriate medications and therapies at the point of care and to identify patients who may benefit from outreach to optimize their medical care. This role will translate semi-structured logic (e.g., decision tables, decision trees, and value sets) into structured code using Clinical Quality Language (CQL), FHIR, and FSH (FHIR shorthand). While it is not necessary that the candidate have experience with CPG-on-FHIR, experience in commercial software development is required. It is expected that with 4-6 months of training, the person in this role will attain the expertise to develop, test, and deploy CPG-on-FHIR CDS content independently.

Primary Responsibilities:In the first six months, learn to independently author and deploy CDS artifacts (med recommenders and population-level digital quality measures) using CQL and FHIR, following the correct standards.Engage with stakeholders, including practicing clinicians, to identify and rectify ambiguities in semi-structured logic.Advise on enhancements to make in the tools and processes used in developing CDS artifacts, to improve efficiency and to ensure compliance with quality processes.

Required Qualifications:Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience.3+ years of experience in commercial software development and implementation, including software development tools (e.g., GitHub) and methodologies (e.g., Agile).Proficiency with a structured programming language (e.g., JavaScript, Java, or Python).Proficiency with using the JSON data representation.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience using standard medical terminologies such as ICD-10-CM, SNOMED CT, LOINC, and RxNorm.Experience using FHIR resources.Experience in Clinical Quality Language (CQL).

The salary range for this role is $88,000 to $173,200 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
