About the Job
The Director of Internal Audit is a strategic leader responsible for overseeing all internal audit functions related to JPI’s development, construction projects, and property management operations. This role ensures the integrity, accuracy, and compliance of internal controls and audit processes, while also driving high standards in audit policies, risk management, and technical procedures.
Reporting to senior leadership, the Director is accountable for statutory audit requirements, internal audit education, and the design and implementation of SOX controls, ensuring compliance with new regulatory standards. The Director works effectively with existing corporate accounting and financial services teams, collaborating closely with business units, legal, FP&A, executive leadership, and the Audit Committee.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
Leadership of Internal Audit Functions: Oversee all core internal audit operations, including audits of financial reporting, tax, AR/AP, consolidations, inter-company transactions, payroll, and expense management.
Corporate & Real Estate Auditing: Ensure timely completion of audit activities related to corporate and real estate operations, proactively addressing any potential audit issues.
Revenue & Transaction Compliance: Ensure compliance with ASC 606 for real estate development and construction revenue transactions in collaboration with the Project Accounting team.
Collaboration with FP&A: Provide timely audit insights and data to the FP&A team to support reliable forecasting and variance analysis. Partner in the preparation of annual, quarterly, and monthly reports.
Audit Policies & SOX Compliance: Develop and update audit policies to address operational changes and internal control requirements. Lead the design and execution of SOX controls within the audit function.
Technical Audit Compliance: Ensure adherence to technical audit standards, particularly during monthly closes, and oversee auditing for leases, stock-based compensation, investments, debt, intangibles, and goodwill, including impairment testing.
Complex Transactions: Provide expert guidance on accounting for and auditing complex transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, purchase price allocations, and intangible asset valuations.
Reporting & Audits: Oversee internal audit reporting to senior leadership and ensure compliance with statutory audits for JPI and affiliated entities.
Tax Compliance: Ensure compliance with tax regulations relevant to the real estate and construction sectors.
Team Development & Training: Lead internal audit education and training initiatives within the corporate accounting and financial services teams. Present key audit updates to executive leadership and the Audit Committee.

Education, Work Experience, & Physical Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in accounting and CPA certification required.
8–10 years of public accounting experience, including at least 2–3 years in a managerial role, preferably in the real estate and construction industries.
Strong technical accounting background with expertise in US GAAP, FASB codification, and experience in preparing technical accounting memos and conducting research.
In-depth knowledge of SOX, including control design, execution, and documentation.
Advanced financial accounting, modeling, and analytical skills.
Exceptional communication abilities to explain complex accounting matters clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
Expertise in MS Excel with proficiency in advanced formulas and financial analysis tools.
