Walker & Dunlop’s Internal Audit department
is to enhance and protect organizational value by providing stakeholders with risk‐based, independent, objective and reliable assurance, advice, and insight designed to add value and improve the Company’s operations. The vision of IA is to be recognized by senior management and the Audit & Risk Committee of the Board of Directors as a valuable business partner by providing assurance, information, analyses and advice to assist management in fulfilling its responsibilities for ensuring operations are managed ethically, effectively and efficiently within an environment of strong internal controls.The Impact You Will HaveThis position reports directly to the Audit & Risk Committee of the Board of Directors and will work with the senior management of the Company to execute audit plans and procedures consistent with those approved by the Committee.The Senior Vice President will create, maintain, and update audit procedures as regulated by the Board and regulatory agencies.Primary ResponsibilitiesOversee a comprehensive internal audit program to provide assurance that the Company is in compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements.Create the annual audit plan and budget and present them to the Audit & Risk Committee for approval.Manage and perform financial, operational, and compliance audits in accordance with the internal audit program approved by the Audit & Risk Committee.Lead, mentor, and develop the internal audit team, fostering a culture of high performance, professional growth, independence, and objectivity.Negotiate annual internal audit contracts with technology vendors and outsourced resources (if necessary) based on scope of work.Coordinate the Department’s activities with all applicable regulatory agencies and examiners to best utilize available internal and co-sourced resources and achieve established objectives.Coordinate and support the efforts of the Company’s external audit firm relating to SOX testing, direct assist, and USAP/HUD Compliance.Assist Audit & Risk Committee in fulfillment of its duties and responsibilities.Meet with Audit & Risk Committee:
Annually to discuss the department’s scope and draft audit plan.Quarterly to update the Committee on status of internal audit program, and provide quarterly results.Periodically to review and discuss audit findings and other matters at other such times as necessary.
Review Company practices and records for compliance with established internal policies and procedures.Develop recommendations for improving internal controls, operating efficiency, and the adequacy of Company records and recordkeeping.Report audit findings and recommendations to appropriate management based on the results of regularly scheduled audits, non-scheduled audits, and at any time when issues need to be addressed by management.Conduct follow-up reviews of financial, operational, or regulatory compliance deficiencies noted during audits.Investigate, as requested by Senior Management or the Audit & Risk Committee, or otherwise brought to the auditor’s attention any irregularities within the Company.Serve as an active participant in the Company’s Risk Committee, Fraud Risk and Response Committee, Technology Risk Committee, and Operations Committee.Operate an Internal Audit function that generally conforms with the Global Institute of Internal Audit Standards.Perform other duties as required, consistent with the goals, objectives, and responsibilities of the Internal Audit Department and with the approval of the Audit & Risk Committee.Office attendance is generally 8:30 am – 5:30 pm EST Monday through Friday with the ability to work up to 2 of those days remotely.Education and ExperienceBachelor’s degree required, preferably in Accounting or Finance.7 plus years’ experience in finance/accounting/audit.5 plus years of management level experience required.5 plus years of Big 4 public accounting experience a plus.Financial services industry experience preferred.CPA or CIA preferred.Financial services and public accounting experience preferred.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesStrong finance, analytical, and accounting skills.Excellent business judgment and strong problem solving skills.Solid communication skills, written and oral, as well as relationship building skills.Strong time management and organizational skills.Detail-oriented, works accurately and efficiently.Energetic, flexible team leader and player with the ability to adapt in a changing environment.Strong Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills.Takes initiative - identifies new ways to approach existing processes, maintains an ownership approach to problem-solving, commits to ensuring accounting best practices are in place, and regularly goes above and beyond role.Demonstrates strong integrity with unwavering ethical standards.Demonstrates strong people management, mentoring, development and delegation skills.Ability to show ownership of your work, take on challenges and acknowledge growth opportunities, and demonstrate patience when learning new processes.Courtesy, respect, and thoughtfulness in teaming with colleagues and other stakeholders.This position has an estimated base salary of $220,000 - $240,000 plus discretionary bonus and stock compensation.
