Summary

Morningstar DBRS is seeking a highly motivated experienced leader in the project finance and infrastructure finance sectors with a minimum of 15 years of relevant credit experience to join its Asset Finance team based out of New York. This is a senior position and the successful candidate will be responsible for leading the growth of Morningstar DBRS’ project finance and infrastructure finance credit ratings business in the U.S. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, Global Head of Asset Finance (Global Head), the successful candidate will support the Global Head in the development of the team in New York, working closely with members of the analytical team in New York and Toronto, Canada on a broad range of assets classes. This individual will be critical in supporting the rapid growth of the U.S. based project finance and infrastructure portfolio.

About the role:

The successful candidate will be expected to take an active role on various initiatives to broaden our analytical footprint in the U.S. across a variety of asset classes within project and infrastructure finance including the power, energy and renewable related sectors (e.g. gas, wind, solar, hydro generation), bespoke digital asset financing (e.g. telecommunications, data centers, fiber networks and other technology infrastructure assets) as well as large infrastructure asset financings such as industrial equipment leases and stadium and arena financings. Having broad credit experience in public infrastructure assets (e.g. PPPs, toll roads, airports, container terminals and ports) will also be a key feature of the role. The role will involve supporting the Global Head in the oversight of the team’s analytical deliverables which will include reviewing rating reports, press releases and related regulatory disclosures, participating in rating committees and ensuring the analytical team is compliant with all processes and procedures. The role will require mentoring and coaching junior analysts to become future leaders, managing relationships with issuers and bankers and representing Morningstar DBRS at conferences.

Responsibilities:

Support the team’s business objectives to provide timely and high-quality rating opinions, rating reports and issuer research reports.

Develop a deep understanding of the existing methodologies and criteria for the various sectors within Asset Finance and support initiatives on investor outreach with respect methodology development.

Help lead the analytical team in the development of innovative topical research and publication of related industry studies and commentaries.

Build and maintain relationships with issuers and investors.

Represent Morningstar DBRS externally at conferences, with media, and on occasion with regulators.

Lead external meetings and chair internal rating committees.

Respond to inquiries from investors and media representatives.

Analytically support business development initiatives.

Help lead the refinement of research products and rating approaches.

Mentor and coach junior analysts.

Qualifications

Minimum of 15 years of credit experience, with specific credit experience related to U.S. based Project Finance or Infrastructure Finance.

Proven leadership skills with the ability to develop, coach and manage a team.

Degree in business, economics, engineering or a related discipline.

Solid power sector, infrastructure and financial markets knowledge.

Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

Strong team player with demonstrated ability to work interactively in a team environment.

Some corporate finance and financial statement analytical ability.

Some experience in review of contracts and debt financing agreements.

Experience in the broader PPP and infrastructure industry in the U.S is a strong asset.

Previous rating agency experience is a strong asset.

Completion of the CFA or MBA program is an asset.

Willingness to travel as required.

Base Salary Compensation Range

$190,000.00 - $348,000.00
