you’ll be crucial in ensuring continued innovation and supporting our diverse team.The Technology & Breakthrough Innovation department drives the creation of new opportunities for S&C Electric by exploiting new technologies and enabling breakthrough product development for the fast-evolving intelligent grid. Technically sophisticated on the inside, S&C’s future systems must deliver unparalleled user experience, outstanding long-term value, and profitable revenue streams. Distribution system protection coordination is applied today mostly as it has been applied 20 or 30 years ago. At the same time, demand for increased segmentation, faster operation, automation, and the overall complexity of the system has been growing. We are looking for an agile, creative, and determined individual to envision, develop, test, and promote protection schemes to enhance the reliability and safety of the distribution grid. https://www.sandc.com/en/careers/Key Responsibilities:Represent the engineering customer when developing protection software, providing requirements and guidance to software developersTest the software embodiments of protection algorithms to ensure they meet the needs and expectations of the customer, including the use of real-time hardware-in-the-loop simulatorsBuild support for developing novel protection solutions by promoting them to stakeholders within S&C and to potential customers of S&CAuthor technical papers and present at technical conferencesParticipate in and contribute to working groups of professional associations such as IEEE PSRC and CIGREResearch future customer needs through literature review, conferences, discussions with colleagues and external customers, and participation in industry activitiesWhat you’ll Need to Succeed:Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineeringAt least 2-year experience planning distribution system protectionProgramming experience (any language)Well versed in concepts such as time-current coordination, ground and negative sequence protection, fuse saving and sequence coordination, fuse-recloser coordinationProficient in distribution protection software tools such as CYMDIST, CYMTCC, and Synergi ElectricExperienced in configuring protection relays using the relay’s setup software such as acSELerator QuickSet, IntelliLink Setup Software, DIGSI, or EnerVistaFamiliar with protection relay testing and event analysisProven ability to work independently, take initiative, and collaborate with colleaguesAny of the following will be viewed favorably, but is not a requirement:Professional engineer licenseContribution to research and development (R&D) activitiesProduct management experienceWorking with communication networks, to include Ethernet, peer-to-peer and mesh radio, cellular, and fiberDesigning and testing configurable logic using DNP3, IEC 61850, or IEC 60870-5-104 (IEC 104)Job requirements:The job requires working in the Chicago office in person between 3 to 5 days a week10% travel domestically and internationally#LI-KD1
