POSITION SUMMARYThe Safety Officer is responsible for enforcing all federal, state, local and company safety regulations and policies to minimize injuries, accidents and property damage. Performs safety inspections and accident investigations on a regular basis to prevent/correct safety hazards; assures compliance with applicable OSHA standards. Delivers Safety Orientation to all new hires and conducts/coordinates other training courses for employees, as needed. Manages the incident process report debrief to corrective action.
YOUR ROLEConducts Safety Inspections at all job sites, supervises the loss prevention process and OSHA compliance requirements for all personnel and facilities.Identifies causes of accidents and hazards and develops preventative measures to minimize accidents in the future.Works with Division Managers, Generalist Superintendents, and Foremen to identify areas of training based on contract and employee requirements.Makes recommendations and implements safety policies and procedures.Inspects proper equipment operation and ensures compliance with company safety guidelines.The driving program is executed and monitored.Participation on organizing, completing, processing claims.Corrects deficiencies/safety violations as needed.Initiates and provides all inspection/safety reports to management for review, performs any further safety coordination requested by management.Ensures fire equipment, eyewash stations and emergency showers are inspected monthly at all Company facilities.Ensures weekly safety meetings (Toolboxes) and daily JHA's are performed by all crews. Creates and conducts monthly safety meetings with field personnel.Conducts safety awareness training to all employees including but not limited to trench excavation, confined space, PPE, and general construction safety.Responsible for conducting new hire orientation safety awareness for all new employees.Escorts inspectors and other visitors (insurance, OSHA, etc.) on tours of facility and jobsites.Ensures GHS documentation is available to all jobsites.Oversees field safety personnel and ensures all safety related administrative support including facilitating the incident documentation process are completed.Incident reporting, completion, root cause, debriefs, and corrective action.Performs other duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU BRINGBachelor's Degree in a Safety-related discipline preferred, or six years of related experience.Valid Texas Driver's License required.Preferred certifications: First Aid, CPR, OSHA 510, OSHA 500, OSHA Recordkeeping.Experience in heavy civil construction, TXDOT/CoSA preferred.Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel).Strong written and verbal communication skills.Analytical skills for moderate complexity tasks.Ability to read and comprehend instructions and correspondence.Effective presentation skills in small group settings.Sound judgment in resolving complex matters.Strong time management and organizational skills.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.Understanding of Title 29 CFR 1926 requirements.Knowledge of teaching/training techniques and site review/inspection processes.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSThe Safety Officer job entails frequent standing, walking, using hands, reaching, lifting above the head, and talking or hearing. They occasionally kneel, crouch, climb ladders, bend, squat, and crawl in tight spaces. Lifting, moving, or pushing up to 50 pounds is required at times. Close and color vision abilities are necessary. Stair climbing, navigating uneven terrain, and driving a company vehicle are common tasks. They primarily work at physical jobsites with some office time, exposed to varying temperatures and loud noises. Construction areas present higher risks, including moving equipment and trip hazards, while the office environment is low to medium risk with constant computer and phone use.
