Responsibilities:The
Assistant Vice President, Claims
will report to the Head of Excess Claims and be responsible for handling all aspects of high exposure claims arising on excess policies from inception to resolution. Key functions include but are not limited to:
Handling complex, high exposure lead and high excess involving single-event bodily injury, property damage, construction defect and multiple policy year complex multiple district tort litigation.
Analyzing and interpreting policy language and handling claims involving complex and/or litigated coverage issues.
Managing complex litigation, including investigation of coverage, liability and damages and development and execution of litigation management and claim resolution plans in high exposure tort claims.
Recommending and establishing case reserves.
Effectively presenting claims in roundtable discussions to senior management.
Timely and accurately drafting required case evaluation and other required reports.
Negotiating claim resolutions against elite adversaries.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university required. Juris Doctor strongly preferred.
10+ years excess commercial claims experience.
Prior extensive complex claims experience preferred.
Effectively present complex claim issues to executive management.
Extensive knowledge of litigation process on a nationwide basis.
Proficient in excess and umbrella technical claims handling techniques and knowledge. The successful candidate must demonstrate in-depth knowledge of coverage, claims handling, investigation and evaluation, including liability and damage analyses.
Ability to analyze, develop and execute claim resolution plans.
Proven negotiation success in resolving complex, high exposure claims.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Strong presentation skills.
Proper adjuster licensing.
