We are looking for a dynamic, organized self-starter to support product development and deployment of HVAC technologies as a Technical Program Manager – Sustainability Technologies & Partnerships within our Global Engineering Services - Sustainability & Automation team. HVAC sustainability technologies are part of the strategic areas to meet this ambitious goal with a focus on building strategy to deliver pilots and scale solutions across Amazon to accelerate the adoption of clean HVAC technologies. As a TPM, you will independently manage complex technical programs, lead cross-functional teams, and drive our commitment to sustainability and operational excellence. Teamwork is an absolute must to accomplish our goals. You will work within a team while both depending on, and driving others to accomplish goals for our customers. This role will lead with influence and work with internal teams as well as external suppliers, vendors, and consultants including manufacturers and contractors to align priorities and ensure the delivery of key milestones. Up to 25% travel required.

Key job responsibilities

In this role, the TPM - Sustainable Power Technology will:

(a) Evaluate new HVAC technology vendors for applications such as geothermal systems, heat pumps, advanced filtration systems, dedicated outdoor air systems (DOAS), evaporative cooling systems, zoning systems for Amazon buildings and other use cases.

(b) Manage multiple development projects focused on implementing and integrating sustainable HVAC technologies into Amazon’s operations through the lifecycle of the program including business case development, vendor selection, technical requirements gathering, design, permitting, construction, commissioning and launch.

(c) Identify and drive continuous improvement in HVAC and mechanical systems to increase energy efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and enhance performance.

(d) Develop and own the roadmap for enhancing efficiency, improving life/durability and reducing total cost of ownership for sustainable HVAC systems.

(e) Create, collect and maintain project documentation, including technical specifications, drawings, and progress reports.

(f) Collaborate with various suppliers, contractors, consultants, certification agencies and construction managers to deliver solutions at Amazon buildings. (g) Establish KPIs for monitoring, evaluating and reporting on performance of HVAC systems and suppliers to stakeholders on a regular basis.

(h) Evaluate the latest sustainable technologies and industry trends and identify opportunities for implementation

(i) Collaborate with compliance and health and safety teams to validate new technologies that comply with relevant regulations and standards. The ideal candidate will be a subject matter expert in their field, possess a background in HVAC design and commissioning, and have a firm understanding of project/construction management. This position will require proficiency in the principles of airflow distribution, deep knowledge of HVAC sequence of operations strategies and an understanding of building codes and standards across multiple geographies. The right candidate will be able to undertake the challenges of sophisticated equipment platforms and demonstrate their ability to think broadly and strategically in aligning building equipment with the larger objectives of the business. They will have the skill-set to drive tactical execution of project schedules, contracts, initiatives and team goals. The candidate needs to have the ability to program manage several initiatives simultaneously.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science or equivalent

8+ years of technical product or program management experience

6+ years of experience in HVAC design, construction, or maintenance

Experience in design and operation of mechanical systems, including Roof Top Units, CRAC systems, heat pumps, HVLS and exhaust fans and other air quality and comfort control equipment

Understanding of psychrometrics, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamic processes and their relation to HVAC related applications

Familiarity with building and/or process heating/cooling load calculations needed to derive HVAC equipment sizing and specifications and evaluate system performance

Familiarity with safety standards and regulatory requirements including international building code (IBC), National Electric. Code (NEC), ASME, NFPA and ASHRAE standards

Experience with new product development process and vendor management

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications

Professional Engineering (PE) License, Certified Energy Manager (CEM), or LEED accreditation is highly desirable

Experience using HVAC monitoring software/BMS for troubleshooting

6+ years of driving end to end delivery, and communicating results to senior leadership experience

6+ years of driving process improvements experience

Experience in stakeholder management, dealing with multiple stakeholders at varied levels of the organization

Master's degree, or MBA in engineering, business, operations or related field

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $133,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $231,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
