Job Summary

Develops automation procedures for the solution of a variety of Actuarial related business problems, or for segments of complex and difficult problems or systems. Plans and implements the computations or processes necessary for computer solutions. Must be able to identify data anomalies and do sufficient research to find underlying causes. All job duties and responsibilities must be carried out in compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

Job Responsibilities

Prepare data and templates for quarterly loss and LAE reserve analyses. Ensure balancing of data to source systems. Maintain proper controls and documentation.

Support production and automation of designated external and internal financial and management reports. These include but are not limited to statutory schedules (P) and the “AY Report”. May also include regulatory reports and bureau data calls.

Support ceded reinsurance placement by providing information and data for broker submissions. Respond to ad hoc requests from brokers.

Support commercial and personal lines pricing by providing routine scheduled pricing review data, for both state and countrywide reviews. Maintain programming code and associated documentation.

Support all areas of the Actuarial department by providing ad hoc data as requested and agreed upon. Assist supervisor through process. This includes discussing needs, identifying potential solutions and testing. Facilitate the process through regular communication with supervisor and clients. Assist fellow team members and colleagues with debugging whenever necessary.

Develop the analysis and design of actuarial applications and/or programs. Identify potential improvements and efficiencies within current processes. Improve data and systems landscape through increased automation, including programming of simple algorithms in a sustainable environment. Properly document and write associated programming code.

Support corporate IT objectives where technical business resources are required. This may include development, testing, and/or documentation.

Meet with business unit representatives to define and evaluate business automation need.

Job Qualifications

College degree in computer science, business administration, or a related field is preferred, or completion of computer technical school.

3/5+ years related work experience.

3/5+ years of property/casualty insurance experience.

To maintain effectiveness by improving skills and acquiring new skills over time.

To anticipate and respond to customer expectations and needs.

The expected starting salary range for this role is $62,000 - $130,000. The actual base salary is based on geographic location, and the range is representative of salaries for this role throughout Selective's footprint. Additional considerations include relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, performance, and business needs.
