WORK WEEK SCHEDULEMonday-Friday (occasional evenings and weekends)
POSITION PURPOSE:Performs entry-level work associated with the repair and maintenance in various trades to include carpentry, plumbing, electrical, roofing, painting, and glass/flooring installation.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)Knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Word and Excel; Google Apps;
Knowledge of hand and power tools, materials, and methods used in general maintenance work;
Effective time management skills;
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
Ability to accurately read, interpret, and comply with departmental procedures;
Ability to provide attention to detail and to minimize errors;
Ability and physical strength sufficient to move objects;
Ability to recognize and report hazards and apply safe work methods;
Ability to work independently and as part of a team and complete tasks in the absence of clear direction;
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCEHigh school diploma or equivalent.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTSMust hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of NC requirements.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:One year of experience in a general trade.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Completes work orders for scheduled maintenance tasks and special projects in regard to carpentry, plumbing, electrical, roofing, painting, and glass/flooring installation.
Inspects facilities for needed maintenance or repairs; performs routine installation, maintenance, and repair tasks in/on buildings and mobile classrooms.
Performs physical duties such as carrying materials around facilities for maintenance, cleaning work sites, and obtaining and transporting supplies/tools/equipment.
Responds to inclement weather emergencies and/or natural disasters by cleaning and clearing debris.
Performs other related duties, as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSThis position requires working in an indoor and outdoor environment. This role is frequently exposed to hazardous materials, gases, and chemicals, and inclement weather conditions. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, external agencies, and the community. Work is considered medium physical work, requiring the exertion of up to 50 pounds of force. The work frequently requires driving automotive equipment.
