Position Summary
The responsibilities include:
Support any of the 35 Prepared Foods Plant on an interim basis. Key responsibilities will include:
Supporting weekly and monthly close activities
Reporting and providing insight to monthly operation results.
Supporting all production reporting and inventory functions.
Reporting and analysis of Cost Savings and/or Cost Reduction activities at the plant level.
Providing financial analysis and cost estimates in support of new product development or cost reduction efforts;.
Support LEAN and Safety initiatives as appropriate. Conduct or coordinate audits of company accounts and financial transactions to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements and statutes.
Ensuring plant personnel understand and implement all fiduciary responsibilities.
Aiding in preparation of any forecasts that are required.
Communicating any specific additional plant needs up through leadership to ensure that the plant has appropriate financial support.
Onboarding full time plant controller
Direct oversight of Newbern and Storm Lake Plants and supervision of a team of 10 employees.
Direct business partner to a Vice President Operations overseeing those same plants.
Collaborate closely with the Business Unit Operations and Finance Teams to provide key costing analysis to facilitate decision support across the commercial team.
Additional responsibilities include:
Aiding in developing appropriate training materials and month end documentation for the plant controller role at all Prepared Foods locations.
Developing reports to help in consolidated plant reporting.
Developing reports to link plant and business unit results
Documenting audit tests and developing centralized system to ensure plant consistency.
This role is heavily matrixed with stakeholders across various functions and locations; strong communication and an ability to build effective partnerships are paramount for success. The role is equal parts delivering the financial commitments and developing winning strategies to allow the business to achieve the long-term growth commitments. Day to day accountabilities include overseeing all Finance and Accounting activities at plant level and ensuring value added business partnering of Finance team with Operating team. Weekly and Monthly activities include reporting and analysis of results vs. latest financial scenarios and building Budgets and Projections and comparing the actual results vs. those scenarios and consolidating those financials for all plants under responsibility. Responsibilities also include identifying and executing cost productivity opportunities, network optimization and capital deployment. This role will also have an active role in the monthly and quarterly forecasting with the business teams. Finally, this individual will be adept at managing within the gray and excited by the opportunity to stand up a new Finance capability.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•Enhance Supply Chain Finance communication and partnership with the individual business units to enable a "One Team" approach in delivering productivity and developing long-term initiatives.
•Provide guidance and communication to the business teams on the weekly, monthly & quarterly forecast.
•Be an advocate for the Business Teams on what is needed from Supply Chain to deliver near-term and long-term financial commitments
•Develop, monitor, and communicate performance across key metrics.
•Provide strategic oversight for network optimization, capital deployment and capacity planning.
•Streamline the capital planning process and improve the analytics around cash invested/return.
•Support the business on innovation initiatives to ensure viable go-to-market strategies and long-term business models.
•Build collaborative working relationships with the Plant Controllers to drive productivity and operational improvements
•Partner across Finance to reduce the amount of time spent on non-value added work and increase the time spent on those activities that provide insight and impact to the business.
•Provide leadership to team of 3 direct reports and a broader team of 10. Other duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required. MA, MBA and/or CPA preferred. Finance and/or Cost Accounting experience; preferably in the food industry.
Experience:
8+ years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment with an understanding of standard cost and variance reporting. Knowledgeable in the areas of GAAP, Cost Accounting, Fixed Assets, General Ledger Accounting, Payroll, and SOX. Understand the dynamics of procurement, production and finished good delivery, the interdependencies of these activities and how they impact profitability. Requires knowledge of cost accounting practices and theories.
Special Skills:
Strong leadership skills of team members; critical thinking skills. Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. Ability to adapt to new working environments.
Computer Skills:
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and knowledge of SAP and data base systems.
Communication Skills:
Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with all levels of team members; critical thinking skills.
Supervisory:
2 Direct Reports and a Total Team of 10.
Travel:
Travel per quarter to 2 Plants with Direct Oversight and ad-hoc travel to plants during Plant Controller absence/departure or other initiative. Regular visits to plants that are being supported is required.
