SUMMARY:
As part of the Infrastructure Operations & DBA organization, this position will drive best-in-class data virtualization and scalable data architectures. The Sr. Database Administrator (Trino and Postgres) will lead platform deployments, migrations, and upgrades across the enterprise Trino cluster environment(s) and Postgres database engines. This candidate will also provide level 3 subject-matter expertise support when issues arise on the platform requiring escalation. In addition to providing support and administration, this resource will be responsible for leading and recommending architectures that streamline data pipeline support, ensure stability and scalability, and maintain strategic focus on innovative technology solutions.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop and maintain solutions which automate configuration, deployment, scaling, monitoring, and support of the company’s core distributed data systems.
Collaborate and drive system architecture(s) for Trino as a scalable query engine and as an Enterprise shared service.
Management oversight for system lifecycle- Installations, upgrades, and BAU maintenance- across Trino cluster and Postgres database architectures.
Own updates to coordinator and worker node configuration files, including catalog properties files, for data source configuration.
Streamline integration with applications and user distributions; ability to improve performance through query optimization and executions.
Ensure collection of logs and Java thread dumps across environments where necessary to drive improvements or troubleshoot.
Drive best practice implementations for Trino cluster tuning and monitoring.
Support for adding custom binary files and customer configuration files, such as custom connectors or UDF.
Build and support materialized views, ensure log monitoring is kept up to date.
Support of PostgreSQL database clusters, architectures, and implementations.
WORK EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
8+ years of total IT experience within a large-scale or data-driven enterprise.
3+ years of experience developing and administering Trino/distributed data query engine deployments.
3+ years PostgreSQL database administration experience preferred.
Expert SQL skills including query tuning for Starburst Trino and PostgreSQL; domain knowledge of data quality/data entitlement.
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or related field preferred.
Experience leading architectures and best-practice recommendations with product development for data-driven solutions.
Experience managing complex delivery pipelines across multiple product groups.
Advanced understanding of database technology and administration; hands-on experience analyzing root causes and issues.
Familiarity with reporting vs. transactional databases, sharding, and spatial databases.
Familiarity with Mongo, Cosmos, and Azure-native database solutions is a plus.
Experience working in a fast-paced and highly collaborative global team.
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
Self-starter with sense of urgency and desire to make an impact.
