As the Risk Manager – Insurance, you will develop cost-effective corporate liability risk transfer mechanisms in partnership with the ERM (Enterprise Risk Management) Director, ERM Executive Committee, and commercial insurance brokers. This is a highly visible role that specializes in identifying and minimizing risk exposure by implementing and administrating loss prevention programs. You will have direct interaction with top leadership to address changing coverage requirements due to construction projects, acquisition of new property/equipment, or strategic changes. You will play a key role in participating in the annual renewal strategy and collaborating in the evaluation of total cost of risk and retained losses, as well as the primary interface supporting captive insurer operations and affiliated reporting needs.
This position is open to either hybrid or remote. Must work Pacific Standard Time business hours.
What you’ll do:
Key contributor in the insurance procurement process, including assessing risk, collecting underwriting data, completing insurance applications, reviewing quotes, binders, and policies, and issuing proofs of insurance.
Partner with brokers to determine data requirements (e.g., property valuations, cyber questionnaire responses) for insurance procurement and lead the effort in data gathering and analysis of renewal information in preparation renewal meetings and presentations to the insurance markets. Including evaluating product options, covering limits, and retained losses, etc.
Bring forth recommendations for ongoing or updated coverage requirements, identifying and sharing resources provided by external insurance partners and providers, including partnering with leaders on off-cycle insurance procurement (e.g., builder’s risk, new leases, new corporate liability categories).
Analyze and manage corporate insurance claims to include claims reporting, information gathering, claims investigation, self-insurance retention, pursuing subrogation, analyzing, and reporting on loss runs, identifying loss trends and working with internal or external counsel to support for claims in litigation.
Participate in the oversight of captive performance to include financial review of captive, underwriting analysis, review of legal documents and claims and examination of types of coverage to the best financial benefit of Premera.
Team with brokers to ensure continuity of services and coverages between the captive and commercial insurance products.
Serve as subject matter expert to internal teams on how insurance impacts their contracts and agreements. This includes partnership with medical clinic subsidiary for medical professional liability.
Participate in (and in some cases lead) initiatives to develop, maintain and improve processes, procedures, guidelines, trainings, standard methodologies, FAQ's, forms, tools and the department website.
Collaborate as needed on additional Enterprise Risk Management program needs.
What you’ll bring:
Bachelor's degree in a related field or 4 years equivalent experience (Required)
4 years of analytical, risk management, claims, or related experience (Required)
Have or are willing to pursue professional certifications such as ARM (Associates in Risk Management), AINS (Associates in General Insurance) and/or AIC (Associates in Claims)
Experience with corporate liability insurance procurement and captive management a plus
Demonstrated skills to build positive business relationships
Demonstrated ability to build credibility and confidence with a wide variety of employees and leaders as a trusted confidant
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; attention to detail; ability to analyze data, understand trends and develop recommendations for action based on the analysis

The pay for this role will vary based on a range of factors including, but not limited to, a candidate’s geographic location, market conditions, and specific skills and experience.
National Salary Range:
$77,000.00 - $130,900.00
National Plus Salary Range:
$87,900.00 - $149,400.00
*National Plus salary range is used in higher cost of labor markets including Western Washington and Alaska.
