.MIGA’s Corporate Office (MIGCO) is seeking to recruit a Senior Strategy Officer - Global Challenge Support, who alongside other MIGA operations staff, will work on expanding the use of guarantees and risk insurance to meet global challenges of health emergency prevention, preparedness and response, food and nutrition security and digitization. These areas are closely tied to the World Bank’s Evolution Roadmap, which seeks to broaden the availability of financing for critical global development objectives. S/he will help support business origination efforts for MIGA; help to innovate MIGA’s product applications to be more marketable to institutional investors; and help grow MIGA’s guarantee business. S/he will work closely with the MIGA regional teams, as well as with other World Bank teams and country clients to contribute and share knowledge and best practices. This position will be based in Washington, DC and report to the Manager, Operational Strategy.Roles and Responsibilities:The Senior Strategy Officer - Global Challenges Support will play an important role in increasing MIGA’s pipeline of projects and programs supporting the development priorities of member countries. S/he will be responsible for project/client identification and targeting, keeping up to date with relevant market regulations affecting priority sectors in multiple jurisdictions, supporting regions and sector teams in origination, building the capacity of country clients as well as overseeing the execution of related guarantees.This role will involve interaction with government officials, other international organizations, private sector companies, financial institutions, counterparts within and across sectors, networks, and other World Bank units. The role also requires contact, as required, with the MIGA’s senior and executive management.Responsibilities include but not limited to:•Contribute to the development of action plans and workstreams to implement MIGA’s and the Guarantee Platform’s Business strategy with focus on origination, product development, and innovation;

•Be accountable for developing projects which fulfill MIGA strategy specifically related to World Bank Group Global Challenges;

•Work along with MIGA’s operations teams across regions and products / sectors (i.e., teams covering the following sectors: (i) Energy and Extractives Industries, (ii) Infrastructure; (iii) Manufacturing, Agribusiness and Services; and (iv) Financial and Capital Markets) to develop practical strategies and approaches to generate business opportunities that expand the guarantee portfolio;

•Conduct independent research on various topics across different sectors and regions, including preparation of briefing notes for senior management, trends in different country sectors / markets, identification of business opportunities across sectors and regions;

•Develop approaches and tools to support regional and product / sector strategy development and strategy execution;

•Contribute to developing MIGA’s marketing materials for priority development sectors, as well as presentations and reports for internal strategy and product development in the area;

•Represent MIGA at conferences or other events to market MIGA’s services and products; and facilitate conversations across different stakeholder groups related to climate and sustainability challenges, recommendations, and learnings;

•Disseminate knowledge by organizing and moderating events and in-house roundtables, preparing publications, and leveraging other media;

•Work with the World Bank and IFC colleagues to leverage their knowledge and expertise, and identify potential problems and propose timely solutions;

•Work with MIGA underwriters and other colleagues as needed when new applications are received to facilitate the underwriting of transactions and ensure excellent client service;

•Mentor/supervise junior staff.

Selection Criteria•Must have a Master’s degree in international business, finance, economics, climate finance, law, environmental science, or related field, and a minimum of 8 years of relevant knowledge and experience of working in a large multilateral finance organizations on issues related to mobilizing private investment towards global development goals;•Operational knowledge of the WBG mission and vision, including knowledge of at least one priority development objective that can be associated with WBG verticals (Prosperity, Planet, People, Infrastructure and Digital) or Global Challenge Programs;

•Demonstrated experience of strategic issues and current reforms in multilateral development finance strategies as well as an understanding of Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) metrics and tools for measuring development impact and monitoring results and managing risks;

•Excellent knowledge of corporate and business planning and monitoring cycles and associated tools, including budgeting and Country Partnership Frameworks, and business pipeline and portfolio management tools

•Strong analytical and conceptual skills, and proven ability to work promptly and efficiently under pressure and meet tight deadlines;

•Proven ability to conceptualize, design and implement major projects and to produce major/complex reports or studies;

•Demonstrated professional leadership and ability to lead a team of professionals in the execution of major projects;

•Strong client orientation, diplomatic skills, as well as sensitivity to social and cultural issues as they affect multilateral risk mitigation and investors going into developing countries;

•Demonstrated interpersonal skills in managing and motivating people and teams;

•Experience in working across boundaries and joint project ventures with key multilateral and bilateral institutions;

•Ability to make forward-looking and practical decisions with a bias towards a results and implementation culture, with a focus on the big picture and the overall strategic framework for development;

•High degree of discretion, ethics, tack, and sensitivity in handling confidential and sensitive information; ability to maintain high standard of personal integrity;

•Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English required, knowledge of other language(s) especially Spanish or French is a plusPlease review
