1. Reviews and/or prepares annual international, federal, and information, income, and excise tax filings (which in some cases are public documents) with a focus on the interpretation and reporting of highly sensitive/confidential information for the university, its benefit plans, investment vehicles and certain affiliates. T2. Partners with external Big 4 accounting tax professionals in assisting with the coordination of outsourcing engagements for a high volume of complex tax filings that require a significant degree of in-house expertise in the international, federal, and state tax arenas.3. Leads the preparation and initial review of certain tax reconciliations, analysis and interpretation of tax returns, financial statements and related disclosures pertaining to the university's annual disclosures, investments, and analysis of departmental information. Tracks, analyzes, and interprets a high volume of increasingly complex endowment related information received from investment managers (e.g., partnership Schedules K-1 and state equivalents, audited financial statements, international disclosures) to determine federal and state UBTI, the NII excise tax, and international transactions as well as required federal and state disclosures (e.g., tax shelter and prohibited tax transactions disclosures, anti-boycotting reports). 4. Evaluates and analyzes contracts, UBTI rate sheets, and other documentation for activities that may give rise to UBTI. Performs and/or conducts an initial review of complex UBTI calculations based on the complex UBTI siloing rules.5. Researches, analyzes, and interprets existing and proposed tax laws to determine their applicability to the university's complex investment structure and diverse array of activities. Assists Tax Directors and the Senior Director in the development and implementation of the appropriate actions.6. Reviews, develops, and updates university policies, procedures, and guidance for the university community with respect to federal and state payroll, income and not for profit tax issues resulting from changes in federal and/or state tax law.7. Participates in strategic tax planning. Supports the mission of the university by partnering with other central units (e.g., Office of General Counsel) in advancing university's diverse initiatives (e.g., preparing and submitting federal exemption applications for newly formed Yale Medicine entities).8. Identifies and assesses areas of potential tax exposure/noncompliance, and strategically and proactively recommends and implements enhanced controls and procedures, often collaborating with internal units and external third parties to accomplish this goal within the timeframe required for compliance.9. Performs tax technical research, follows up and responds to requests from the university community, including the President's Office, General Counsel's Office, Investment's Office, Office of Institutional Support, faculty, business managers, senior administrators, and central departments (e.g., Payroll and A/P).10. Drafts technical tax memoranda to document tax positions for tax files and select members of the university community.11. Directs, mentors, and supervises the senior tax analyst responsible for assisting with tax compliance and other tax projects, as assigned.12. Manages the external tax compliance and projects calendars.13. Supports the university in international, federal, and state tax audits.14. Working with the Tax Directors and Senior Director, presents relevant tax issues to university community, individually and as part of a team.15. Participates in university working groups and committees.16. Participates in process of training new Tax Department members.17. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skill/ability 2: Technical tax expertise, sound knowledge of the tax regulations, and judgment with respect to information reporting and international tax compliance requirements, which are complex and dynamic, as well as their applicability to a complex investment structure and diverse array of activities.Experience with tax exempt and pass-through entities.
Required Skill/ability 3: Experience with tax and financial regulatory reporting. Knowledge and understanding of nonprofit accounting, tax, GAAP, and internal controls. Experience with complex tax reporting at a large organization.Exceptional analytical and tax research skills.

Preferred Education: CPA and/or master's degree in taxation is preferred but not required. Knowledge and understanding of nonprofit accounting, tax, GAAP, and internal controls.
