Senior Designer (News Design Desk)

Design cover and cover stories for 2-3 markets per week for print and digital platformsDesign covers for awards sections, focus sections and other special publicationsDesign Book of Lists cover and chapter pages, and project manage the Book of Lists production processAs needed, help with design of reporter pages, news pages, special sections, Lists, Leads and other inside pagesCollaborate with photographers on front end of the planning process to elevate photography for cover stories, awards sections and other signature content featuresAct as weekly contact with printerTone photos, create PDFs and send PDFs to printer; upload PDFs for digital editionAttend and participate in editorial planning meetingsIdentify and attend training opportunitiesTake on other duties assigned by Regional Creative Director as neededThe ideal candidate has:

Background in journalism, design and data visualizationMedia design experience and expertise in Adobe CC design tools - InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and AcrobatExperience editing and toning photos, creating illustrations, and coming up with non-narrative, creative visual solutionsExperience working with third-party design tools such as Infogr.am, MapCreator and othersUnderstanding of local market newsrooms and how they operate on a daily basisAbility to multitask and work in a fast-paced environmentExcellent communication, cross-group collaboration, and planning skills with a strict attention to details, process and deadlines
