Overview:HKS is searching for a talented Designer to join the Los Angeles team.
Exercises independent judgment in evaluation, selection and use of standard techniques, and solves problems when encountered. Collaborates on exceptional design and delivery for clients to complete assignments with originality and ingenuity. Anticipates job expectations and contributes to project and design solutions.
Responsibilities:Compiles data and performs design computations in collaboration with project teamWorks with senior designer(s) and project team(s) on conceptual designs, presentations, design development and production to deliver projects on time and within budgetApplies creative design concepts to projects and expands on concepts of othersMay participate in project proposals to develop design solutionsUnderstands industry standard construction techniques, building regulations and engineering principles to apply to project plansSupports design effort and client presentations to develop client relationshipsDevelops, modifies and/or reviews drawings to incorporate the design intentProduces graphic presentations, 3D renderings and implementation documentsCollaborates on the development of design throughout appropriate phases of the projectAssist in the research of material requirements and costs for projectsPrepares presentation/design drawings and may build models for client/project team reviewOrganizes and delivers complete project design presentations to client user group or public forumCoordinates with consultants, contractors and regulatory agencies to meet overall project objectivesResolves complex design issues with innovative and practical solutionsWorks with team to manage client expectations, team communication and consultant coordinationSupports the firm's cultural values, including a commitment to quality, innovation, learning and growthActs as a mentor by coaching and motivating project team membersSeeks leadership opportunities by providing direction and feedback to team members and collaborating with team leadersFosters and maintains a collaborative professional working relationship with the project teamPromotes the firm's principles of 'design excellence' through the integration of responsible and sustainable design practice with the art of design, including understanding mindful materials evaluation and selectionUnderstands fundamental accounting principles and the project accounting processCollaborates in delivering a project on defined budget requirementsResponsible for the financial implications of overhead and chargeable time, including accountability to project plan and planned utilization rateSupports the business development process by identifying new opportunities, marketing current clients for repeat business, and assisting with proposals, budgets and schedulesQualifications:Accredited professional degree in Architecture or related fieldArchitectural registration strongly preferredTypically 5+ years of experienceSustainable design accreditation preferredProficiency in RevitProficiency in architectural software such as 3D modeling (including Rhino and Grasshopper, 3D Studio MAX, etc.) and AutoCAD preferredExperience with Photoshop, Illustrator, SketchUp and InDesign graphic software preferredProficiency in MS Office Suite preferredKnowledge of sustainability and integrated design guidelinesKnowledge of furniture, furnishings and equipment (FF&E) and Environmental Graphic processExperience with the entire project lifecycle, through post-occupancyStrong knowledge of materials, construction techniques and building codesStrong presentation skills and graphic and visualization skills to communicate design ideasStrong organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects at the same timeAbility to maintain existing client relationships and build new client relationshipsAbility to communicate in a clear, concise and professional manner both verbally and in writingAbility to problem solve and apply innovative solutionsAbility to work and collaborate in a team environmentAbility to effectively meet deadlines at expected qualityBase Salary Range: $72 - 90k annually - for Los Angeles onlyThe estimate displayed represents the general base salary range of candidates hired in Los Angeles only.
