The Shift Miller plays a central role in the milling process that is the core of our business. Areas of responsibilities are flour milling, wheat cleaning and tempering, record keeping, maintenance, sanitation, planning, coordinating, and communication. This position is critical for promoting safety, quality, milling efficiencies, and helping achieve the company's goals and objectives. This position will work rotating shifts, including weekends. This is a newly built facility. We are beginning our interviews for December/January hires. We are prepared to extend offers prior to the start date.SHIFT MILLER
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The miller is the shift lead and guides the work effort of the mill crew on his shift.
Maximize milling efficiency in the plant daily by focusing on adjustment and operation of cleaning house and mill equipment.
Troubleshoot equipment, optimize the mill flow sheet, and solve flow problems.
Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned including working on plant teams, providing input on capital projects, and center-lining.
Perform sanitation duties as assigned, and ensure their team is focused on the critical areas of the mill that need sanitation efforts.
Determine, plan, and execute mill maintenance items directly related to milling efficiencies such as roll changes, roll issues, sifter work, equipment PM, and maintenance. Perform repairs and maintenance of milling equipment and other plant equipment.
Use computers to operate mill process equipment, document production reports, and shift re-post, including mill and maintenance issues. Fill out work orders, update data in the OEE tool, communicate issues, and propose corrective actions.
Interact with scheduler, elevator, blender, quality team, maintenance, and packer to communicate workflow, milling schedule, and equipment issues.
Assist as needed within the mill and facility in other areas, including, but not limited to, all mill functions, flour transfer, feed loadout, bulk loadout, and packaging.
Employee safety, food safety, and product quality are of equal value to milling efficiency when performing the duties of Miller.
SHIFT MILLER
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school education.
1+ years' experience in shift milling operations.
Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
Must be able to work and cover any shift based on plant needs and customer demands.
Strong leadership behaviors and ability to give clear directions to mill crew.
Demonstrated safety and food safety champion behaviors.
Strong interpersonal skills (communication, coaching, setting expectations, and providing feedback).
Demonstrated problem solving/decision making skills.
Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and lead others to work as a team.
Strong attention to detail.
Experience with several computer applications including, but not limited to, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Ability to communicate clearly, orally and in written form.
Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position requires physical efforts such as straining, pulling, lifting, working, and standing and walking on concrete floor.
Exposure to elements such as noise, minable dust, cold and hot temperatures.
Extreme climate or climate variation.
Heat more than 100 degrees and below freezing temperatures.
Exposure to manufacturing equipment hazards like moving machinery and passing forklifts.
Climbing ladders and working in elevated space which may require fall protection equipment.
