YAI is seeking a qualified Assistant Supervisor to support our locations in Brooklyn . Assistant Supervisors serve as lead members of the direct care team, providing similar day-to-day functions as Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), but with additional administrative responsibilities including training, scheduling, systems management, and in some cases, directly supervising the DSPs. Depending on the support needed, Assistant Supervisors may work in a person’s home, in their family’s home, in a YAI residence, at a day habilitation center, or out in the community.
Our Bay Ridge 3 residential program is currently seeking a high-energy, self-starting individual to assist in supervising a home of 8 adults with I/DD. The talented, creative, and dedicated staff at the Bay Ridge 3 IRA are constantly exploring the activities and interests of the people we support in order to ensure they are living meaningful lives and remain active members of society. The residents at Bay Ridge 3 enjoy community walks, outings to get dinner, trips to the movies, and trips to the coffee shop. They like to socialize with others and celebrate special occasions, and they enjoy playing games and watching vintage movies & television shows. Some of them participate in day programs while some are retired & elderly. We are looking for ambitious staff who have a medical background and take initiative to best support the people who live at Bay Ridge 3. Prospective staff should be able to take the lead in initiating and orchestrating creative in-home activities and lead groups.
The Assistant Supervisor will need to provide program oversight, quality assurance, maintain NYS OPWDD regulations, oversee clinical programming, advocate for the people we support, and liaison with families. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working directly with people of all ages with I/DD. The talented, creative, and dedicated staff at our residence are constantly exploring the activities and interests of the people we support to ensure they are living meaningful lives and remain active members of society. The staff encourage the residents to increase their independence by assisting with acts of daily living and providing support while out in the community. We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated ASUP , who can handle situations with patience and understanding , to work with this active group of people.
Key Responsibilities:
Ensuring the health, safety, and habilitation of the people we support is consistent with agency philosophy and department practice - Ensuring the appropriate , therapeutically documented level of supervision in the residence, day program or community to ensure and protect the health and/or safety of the people we support.
Providing program/floor coverage.
Promoting and maintaining the excellence of our programs
Involving family members and other stakeholders, including professionals, in the team process .
Keeping staff informed by attending meetings and delivering pertinent information
Fostering professional development through regular supervision, training, and evaluations
Supervising staff to ensure that they meet the needs of the people we support, agency standards, and develop professionally through the supervisory process.
Bringing the organizational culture to life
Ensuring a work environment that is free from harassment and discrimination
Actively participate in the hiring process
Maintaining direct relationship with staff
Building staff morale
Utilizing participatory management
Fostering the Open-Door Policy
Nurturing staff development Supervising/Managing teams
Maintaining oversight and compliance of systems specific to role and responsibilities
Fostering communication between relevant supports including those within the program, within the agency, and supports outside the agency.
Required to perform your responsibilities as they currently exist or may change in meeting the needs of the department, under the supervision of your supervisor/manager.
Requirements: Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED required
Prior Direct Support Professional experience required
Background in supporting people with intellectual & developmental disabilities and/or mental health required
Some college preferred
Leadership experience preferred
Qualifications: Additional Knowledge , Skills, and Abilities
Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills
Strong communication and writing skills
Ability to lead by example and act as a role model
Ability to accept and apply feedback
Hig h flexib ility in personality and scheduling, per program needs
Valid Driver’s License
Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software to carry out essential business processes in Workforce Management
Schedule:
Tuesday - Saturday 3:00pm - 11:00pm
1 day/week morning shift for paperwork day
Compensation:
$22.37/hour to $22.37/hour
