The principal robotics automation software engineer at DRS Daylight Solutions will be part of an engineering team developing novel lasers and transitioning them into products.Incumbent will own the software framework, graphical user interfaces, user manuals and complex robotic optical alignment stations automation scripts.The engineer will own the full software development life cycle- analysis, architecture, development, testing and deployment.This person will be responsible for software requirement flow-downs to the optical, electrical, and mechanical engineering team members. Additionally, this person will be solving complex problems requiring deep understanding of computer science and laser technology and excellent problem-solving skills across the company and contribute to IP, publications, and business development.Job Responsibilities
Develop hardware support libraries for cameras, motors, power meters, wavelength meters and other USB and TCP/IP devicesDevelop and maintain the software framework for robotic alignment stationsDevelop scripts in Python to automate the alignment and attach of optics in complex laser systemsDatabase designDevelop image and signal processing routinesDevelop optic alignment optimization algorithmsAgile development team lead which plans and manages complex projects in the automation team and executes to the scheduleDevelop hands-on skill in optical instrumentation and metrologyBuild and align laser based optical bench setupsSupports programmatic design to cost and design for manufacturability requirementsInteract with users, manufacturing engineers and design teams to extract system and software requirementsResponsible for completion of assigned tasks on time and meeting technical requirementsDevelops prototypes to retire key development risks as directedInteract effectively and efficiently as part of a multi-member, multi-function team, as well as with customers and suppliers, write reports and contribute peer reviewed publications and invention disclosures
The ideal candidate will have:
Expert level knowledge of C++, Python, MS Office SuiteExperience in integration environments, developing hardware support librariesImage processing routinesGUI design and developmentQt software frameworkDatabase designOptical bench alignmentFirst order optics knowledgeQualifications
Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical field with a minimum of 8 years of experienceMastery of technologies and domain knowledgeExpected to have knowledge and significant experience in multiple engineering disciplinesThe pay scale for this position is$126,991/year - $197,154/year.
