The Division of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) is recruiting to fill a Corrections Nurse 1/2 position located in Anchorage at the McLaughlin Youth Center
What You Will Be Doing:Under the supervision of higher-level nurses, and in accordance with an established training plan, the Corrections Nurse 1/2 (CN 1/2) performs developmental duties independently assessing, monitoring, and maintaining the physical well-being of the residents at the McLaughlin Youth Center. The CN 1/2 provides direct care within their scope of practice and utilizes medical protocols, when necessary and available, to meet the health needs of the residents. When medical conditions are beyond their scope or protocols, the CN 1/2 refers the resident to a higher level of care. This is a 24-hour facility and requires the nurses to provide telephone triage to this and other DJJ facilities on a rotating basis and under rare circumstances, come into the facility during off-hours to provide direct care. This is a flexibly staffed CN 1/2 position. The CN 1 incumbent, upon completing the probationary period and acquiring the necessary competencies through the training plan, may progress to a CN 2.

The Working Environment You Can Expect:
You will work full-time at the McLaughlin Youth Center located on Providence Drive in Anchorage. Normal working hours are M-F 8:00am-4:30pm but can be adjusted to meet the needs of the facility. MYC is a 24-hour secure facility. This position requires the ability to be "on-call" on a rotating basis.

Minimum Qualifications
Corrections Nurse 1:Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska.
Special Note:Candidates not currently licensed by the State of Alaska, who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements for licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska and requisite qualifying experience, may apply for vacancies in this job class. Corrections Nurse 2:Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska;

Successful completion of a formal training plan as a Corrections Nurse 1 with the State of Alaska;
OR
One year of entry level experience as a Registered Nurse. Examples of this experience include but are not exclusively limited to prior service as a Corrections Nurse 1, Psychiatric Nurse 1, or Nurse 1 with the State of Alaska or its equivalent with another employer.
Substitution:Combinations of prior training and experience in other specializations of nursing care (e.g., Med-Surg, Psychiatric, Public Health, Critical Care) will be evaluated for comparability on a case-by-case basis.
