The Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Clinic Director is responsible for overseeing the daily administrative operations, including managing and supervising professional and/or support staff to ensure the delivery of quality and safe patient care. As a member of the Oncology Service Line (OSL) team, the Clinic Director is tasked with developing and implementing strategies to enhance the program's enterprise and services, aiming to provide high-quality, safe, and cost-effective care. The Clinic Director reports to the Senior Director of Administration and Clinical Operations, OSL, and maintains a collaborative relationship with the Clinic Medical Director and the Director of Clinical Stem Cell Laboratory of the BMT Programs, in addition to Ambulatory Administration and Hospital Administration.
Duties & Responsibilities
STRATEGIC PLANNING, GOAL SETTING, AND COMMUNICATION:Determine, plan, and establish the strategic course to improve and strengthen the healthcare business and services in the BMT and Cellular Therapy Program, thus improving the contribution margin to the enterprise.Analyze changes in demographics, market competition, and social and economic factors in the organization's environment to formulate the program's vision and values statements.Study trends, innovative approaches, and new patient testing to apply new concepts toward meeting organizational strategic goals.Attend all regularly scheduled Ambulatory Clinic Director meetings, Ambulatory Leadership meetings, Hospital Leadership meetings, Blood and Bone Marrow Transplant meetings, Learning Development Institutes (LDIs), Clinic Medical Director (CMD)/Clinic Director, and daily safety operational huddles.Conduct program staff meetings and huddles.Responsible for the regular dissemination of UIH information to clinicians, staff, and where appropriate, to patients and guests.Review and provide input into the modification of the program structure and its services to improve and expand operations and/or services.Present proposals to Clinical Departmental Leadership.Assist in developing a five-year business plan for the Bone Marrow Transplant Program and monitor progress.Assists with marketing and promoting the Bone Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapies Programs.REGULATORY COMPLIANCE
Ensure Hospital, Ambulatory Services, and Clinic/Departmental policies and procedures are reviewed and updated regularly as required by University, UI Hospital and Clinics, and external regulatory agencies, particularly the Health Resources and Services Administration.Monitor and ensure regulatory compliance with standards from The Joint Commission (TJC), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Foundation for Accreditation of Cellular Therapies (FACT), and other oversight bodies.Participate in TJC tracer activities when scheduled in respective clinic and upon request for other clinics.Ensure staff completes their work assignments within the scope of practice for their discipline.Work collaboratively with Labor Relations Management staff and ambulatory leadership to carry out the Collective Bargaining Agreements for the Civil Service union employees.Ensure all audits are performed as required by the hospital and ambulatory administration leaders.Work with the CMD to design and implement the Clinic's quality improvement program, which includes initiatives and metrics that align with the QI plan for UIH.Maintain facility standards in accordance with all accreditation and regulatory requirements.FINANCIAL/BUDGETARY RESPONSIBILITY:
Develop the annual budget for the program, establish growth plans, and prepare the requests for capital equipment, in collaboration with the CMD and Sr Director of Administration and Clinical Operations, OSL.Joint responsibility with the CMD for the Clinic's profit and loss, budget variances.Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
Master's Degree in Business Management, Health Care Administration or Public Health, and 3 years of experience in an outpatient care setting, including management experience in an academic environment-OR-
Bachelor's degree and a total of 6 years of management-level experience (supervisory and financial) in healthcare.Working knowledge of health care in a physician's office environment.Solid knowledge of federal, state, and Joint Commission clinical guidelines/standards and compliance for patient healthcare, safety, and billing requirements and knowledge of how to apply them in practice.Financial acumen in understanding, preparing, and managing operational budgets.Intermediate skills using general office equipment, and Microsoft suite of office products (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook).Strong communication skills to interact with patients and develop effective working relations with patients, colleagues, colleges,/department ambulatory, providers, regulatory bodies, consultants, and vendors.Ability to work with physicians collaboratively.Must possess problem-solving skills, and excellent analytical skills to read, analyze, and interpret business trends.Knowledge of guidelines and standards for accreditation by various outside entities is required.
