Salary Range : $90,000 - $95,000; annual discretionary performance bonus

Position Overview
Phipps Neighborhoods seeks a
strategic, values-based Senior Grant Writer
to join its Development Team. Reporting to the Chief Strategy & Integration Officer, the Senior Grant Writer will work closely with the Manager of Development and Special Events to create, articulate, and implement grant and funding strategies that align with Phipps Neighborhoods' mission and growth priorities. This role will play a key part in securing essential funding for the organization’s programs by leading the full lifecycle of grant development—from prospect research to final submission and reporting. The Senior Grant Writer will collaborate extensively with program, finance, and data teams to develop compelling narratives, budgets, and measurable outcomes that reflect the organization’s mission and values.
Note : The Senior Grant Writer is expected to be in the office at least two days per week and is encouraged to visit Phipps Neighborhoods program sites in the Bronx at least once a week to gather information and stay connected to program impact on the community.
Key Responsibilities
Grant Writing and Submission Management :Lead the full lifecycle of grant proposals, including prospect research, writing, editing, and submission.Develop compelling narratives and detailed grant applications that effectively align program needs with funder priorities, articulating objectives, budgets, and anticipated outcomes.Collaborate with program teams, finance, and the data team to generate comprehensive budgets, proposal content, measurable outcomes, and expense reports, ensuring compliance with grant requirements.Interpret and meticulously follow grant application guidelines and requirements.In partnership with the Manager of Development and Special Events, manage and maintain a grant calendar, coordinating submission and reporting deadlines to support optimal workflow and timely compliance.
Prospect Research and Donor Engagement :Conduct prospect research to identify and pursue new funding opportunities aligned with Phipps Neighborhoods' strategic goals.Build and nurture relationships with foundation and corporate donors, providing ongoing updates to keep funders informed of the impact of their support.Collaborate with the Manager of Development to develop stewardship strategies that reflect the organization's values and growth priorities.Conduct follow-ups post-submission as needed to maintain positive relationships with funders.
Collaboration and Data Management :Partner closely with program teams to gather essential information that ensures proposals accurately reflect Phipps Neighborhoods' strategic goals.Coordinate with finance and data teams to create clear budgets and track outcomes, ensuring alignment with funder guidelines.Maintain an organized and accessible database of all grant submissions, including dates, outcomes, and feedback, for improved tracking and efficiency.Manage reporting processes for all awarded grants, ensuring compliance with grant terms and conditions.
Qualifications
Education :Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred in nonprofit management, communications, English, business administration, or a related field.Relevant grant writing courses or workshops are a plus. Extensive experience and demonstrated success in grant writing may substitute for formal education.
Experience :Minimum 5 to 7 years of experience in grant writing, with a proven record of securing major grants from foundations, government agencies, and corporations.Previous experience managing a grant submission calendar, ensuring coordinated, timely submissions.Demonstrated experience in:Conducting in-depth prospect research and aligning grant opportunities with organizational objectives.Collaborating with program, finance, and data teams to gather necessary information for proposals.Developing persuasive grant proposals and reports, focusing on program needs, budgets, and outcomes.Building strong relationships with funders and ensuring compliance with grant terms.
Soft Skills :Proficiency in persuasive writing and storytelling to convey impactful narratives that align with organizational values.Exceptional writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.Detail-oriented, with strong organizational and time-management abilities.Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams.
Familiarity with industry standards in grant writing, including staying informed on trends in nonprofit funding to improve strategy and outreach.
