Position Summary

The Director of Accounting will play a critical role in managing the college's accounting operations, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records. Reporting directly to the Assistant Vice-President Controller, this position will oversee the accounting staff and be responsible for accounts payable, fixed assets, travel & expense management, and compliance with regulatory reporting, including IRS Form 990, NCAA financial reports, and IPEDS submissions. The ideal candidate will have experience with Banner ERP, advanced Excel skills, and proficiency in SQL.

Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA/MBA preferred.5+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a managerial role, preferably in higher education or nonprofit sectors.SPreferred Qualifications

Experience with IRS Form 990, NCAA financial reporting, and IPEDS submissions is highly desirable.Preferred Education/Experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Team Management:

Supervise and mentor the accounting team, promoting a collaborative and high-performance environment. Provide guidance and professional development opportunities to staff.Accounts Payable Oversight:

Manage the accounts payable process, ensuring the timely and accurate processing of invoices and expense reimbursements. Implement and enforce internal controls to maintain compliance and accuracy.Fixed Assets Management:

Oversee the accounting and reporting of fixed assets, including acquisition, capitalization, depreciation, and disposals. Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and institutional policies.Travel & Expense (T&E) Management:

Supervise the T&E process, ensuring adherence to college policies and accurate reporting of employee expenses. Develop guidelines and provide training for staff on T&E policies.Regulatory Compliance:

Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and institutional policies. Prepare IRS Form 990, NCAA financial reports, and IPEDS submissions in a timely manner, collaborating with relevant departments for data collection.Financial Reporting:

Prepare financial statements in accordance with GAAP and FASB and perform analytic review. Present findings and insights to the Controller and senior management.Budgeting and Forecasting Support:

Assist in the annual budgeting process by providing insights and analyses related to accounts payable, fixed assets, and T&E expenditures.Audit Coordination:

Coordinate external audits, ensuring that all required documentation is prepared and submitted. Implement recommendations for process improvements.ERP Management:

Utilize Banner ERP for financial reporting and accounting functions, ensuring the system is optimized for effective tracking and reporting of financial data.Data Analysis:

Leverage advanced Excel skills and SQL to analyze financial data, generate reports, and support data-driven decision-making within

Process Improvement:

Identify and implement best practices to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of accounting operations.Physical Demands
