Location: Denver - hybrid (combination of in-office and work from home)
Type: Full-time, exempt
Pay: $85,000 to $110,000 annually + generous benefits including 401k matching, 100% employer-paid premiums for health, dental, vision, paid vacation, holiday pay, and two months paid parental leave

Colorado Village Collaborative exists to bridge the gap between the streets and stable housing. We create, operate, and advocate for transformational housing communities in partnership with people experiencing homelessness. We currently operate 5 sites that are a mix of Micro-Communities and Safe Outdoor Spaces.
Colorado Village Collaborative is hiring a Controller to advance our mission, vision and strategic priorities. The Controller is responsible for developing and leading all accounting operational functions, managing the accumulation and consolidation of financial information for internal and external financial statements, and assessing accounting and internal control systems. The Controller will work closely with the CEO and will lead the finance team in advancing the organization's near and long-term goals. Primary roles and responsibilities for this position are outlined below. This position supervises one direct report (subject to change based on organizational growth).
Requirements
Priority Work Experience Requirement:
Work history with Federal, State and/or City contracting and invoicingExperience working with and managing Bill.com platformFive plus years with Quick Books OnlineExperience reporting and tracking government contracts and large grantsReporting and Accounting
Produce monthly financial reports to the finance committee and leadership teamResponsible for month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysisPrepare cash-flow reports, projecting cash needs at weekly and monthly intervalsSupport production of annual reportRecommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of companyManage the production of monthly monitoring of annual budget, calculate variances and report significant changes to the CEOAnalysis and management of organizational costsProvide financial analyses as needed, in particular for capital investments, pricing and salary decisions, and contract negotiationsCompliance
Coordinate with external auditor to achieve compliance and creation of 990sSupport the annual audit processComply with mandated reporting requirements and tax filingsSupport HR compliance with benefits, retirement, payroll and other HR financial needsManagement
Evaluate, implement and streamline policies, procedures, controls and most methodologiesManage outsourced accounting functions or bookkeeping staffResearch, plan and implement Finance Department initiatives including software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, as neededOversee the activities of the finance department, such as accounts payable, billings & collections, and payrollParticipate in at the leadership team level for supporting organizational operationTransactions
Maintain system of controls over accounting transactionsEnsure accounts payable are paid in a timely mannerFoundational Grant management in partnership with Development DirectorOversee production of government invoicingMaintain asset registersConduct banking transactions such as check deposits, cashier check requests, etc.Other Responsibilities
Secretary of State filings - both corporate and nonprofitWorks directly with Development Director for grant-related reporting requirementsProcure W9s and process 1099 reportingEnsure Tax Exempt Status with vendorsPerforms other related duties as necessary or assigned.Qualifications and Skills Needed:
BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business-related field5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferredNonprofit Experience preferredDeep understanding of Accounts Payable (AP)/Accounts Receivable (AR)GAAP Accounting experience with accrual methodsProven knowledge of QuickBooksAdvanced credentials such as a Masters of Business Administration / MBA or Certified Public Accountant / CPA are preferredAbility to work professionally and respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds and skills in a team environmentA willingness to engage in continuous learning about anti-oppression and social justice issuesPassion for advancing solutions to homelessness
