Our Tax Credits team at Gusto is bringing to life an 'emerging market' product for our customers. We aim to help guide them through intricate tax credit regulations, unlock financial opportunities and extend the runway for their businesses. The Tax Credits team has ambitious goals to drastically simplify and demystify the complex world of tax credits in order to drive significant customer value and revenue for our business.
About the opportunity
As a Staff Product Designer for Tax Credits, you'll be responsible for helping to shape and execute on this newly reformed 0-to-1 team to drive product market fit and business and customer value. You'll be expected to craft high quality and intuitive end-to-end experiences for our customers. The work on Tax Credits is high visibility, high impact experiences that balance complex technical, compliance, and service requirements. You will play a pivotal role in simplifying the intricate journey of discovering and securing tax credits, ensuring it's approachable, user-friendly, and stress-free. Gusto is first and foremost customer-driven. We take pride in making informed decisions based on customer research and data while balancing short and long term technical decisions. Here's what you'll do day-to-day:Develop a deep understanding of the different customers we serve, and how their varying needs translate into product requirementsWork with cross-functional partners in Product Management, Engineering, and Data Science to understand customer problems and identify key opportunities for the customer and our business.Craft the end-to-end journeys and develop frameworks and principles that can be used to help align our teams on the right experiences.Collaborate with our Research, Data Science, and Customer Support teams to build a holistic understanding of customer needs, and make sure they're shared with your teams to inform their thinking, build empathy, and inform prioritization decisions.Collaborate with other key teams and stakeholders at Gusto such as Legal, Compliance, Risk Operations, and other various product owners.Ensure that proposed solutions are customer-informed through research, data, and insights from our Customer Support team.Balance an iterative approach and urgency to solve customer pain with ensuring that short term improvements ladder up to long-term vision and meet a high bar for the customer experience.Hold high standards for the customer experience, including partnering with engineering partners to refine the end customer experience and ensure that what we release is bug free, performant, accessible, and responsive.Drive solutions that establish Gusto as a trusted tax expert advisor, empowering our customers to make confident and informed tax credit decisions.Here's what we're looking for:
8+ years' Product Design experience, majority in-house.Ideally you've worked on enabling simple, easy to use experiences in complex domains like payroll, benefits, finance or banking, etc. Bonus if you have direct experience working on tax and/or accounting products.A proven track record of designing great UX for complex workflows and crafting end-to-end experience visions and frameworks, while showcasing an iterative approach toward execution.Service design mindset when designing end-to-end, recognizing that the customer experience doesn't stop with the product, but extends to the human touchpoints with our service teams.A customer-focused mindset and can speak to the impact of the experience they've shipped in tangible terms the business understands.Strong opinions loosely held and a willingness to engage in constructive debates about scope and tradeoffs to build alignment and unblock work.You've built great relationships with cross functional collaborators and know how to model this for your team.A proven track record of designing great UX for complex workflows and crafting end-to-end experience visions and frameworks, while showcasing an iterative approach toward execution.A customer-focused mindset and can speak to the impact of the experience they've shipped in tangible terms the business understands.Strong opinions loosely held and a willingness to engage in constructive debates about scope and tradeoffs to build alignment and unblock work.You've built great relationships with cross functional collaborators and know how to model this for your team.Communication and collaboration skills that enable you to explain the impact of your work, tradeoffs you've made, lessons learned, and design rationale, and generate alignment and enthusiasm across the company.Ability to embrace ambiguous situations as opportunities to add clarityA builder who loves being hands on crafting high quality, high impact solutions directly and through pairing with team members.

Our cash compensation range for this role is $139,000/yr to $199,000/yr in Denver & most remote locations, and $179,000/yr to $221,000/yr in Seattle, San Francisco & New York. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including candidate experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed above.
Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately
2-3 days
per week (or more depending on role). The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gusto's subsidiary, whose physical office is in Scottsdale.
Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas.
