Bus Operators report to the Bus Transportation management team consisting of Managers, Assistant Managers, and Supervisors. They and are responsible for providing fixed-route bus transportation services in San Mateo County.

Essential Functions & Duties
Operate a variety of transit vehicles and ensure that proper fares are collected.Safely transport passengers along assigned routes and making designated stops.Perform a safety inspection of each assigned vehicle before driving.Announce stops and provide general information to the riding public prior to departure.Assist wheelchair patrons with positioning of wheelchairs; secure safety belts and securement devices to wheelchairs on transit vehicles.Examples of Duties:Operate computerized control panels, push buttons, door levers and other manual and foot controls on transit vehicles.Adjust mirrors and head signs of each assigned vehicle. Also, follow maps, frequency sheets, timetables, and notices.Inspect the interior and exterior of the buses including, tires, signs, lights, brakes, mirrors, stanchions, air systems and wheelchair lifts.Report equipment defects and perform other duties as assigned.Report on passenger counts, vehicular deficiencies, accidents, incidents, service change requests, and other reports and forms.Perform all job duties and responsibilities in a safe manner to protect one's self, fellow employees, District property, and the public from injury or harm. Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures in an effort to reduce or eliminate accidents.Minimum Qualifications
No previous Bus Operator or commercial driving experience required. We provide paid training (classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction).
High school diploma or equivalent.One year of fulltime customer service or public contact experience.A valid Class "C" California Driver's License with two years of continuous Good Driving Record (see below).Other Requirements:
Must be able to obtain and present a Class "B" Commercial Driving Permit (with Passenger and Air Brakes Endorsements) on the first day of employment.Must be able to operate and clearly communicate over District radio communications system.Must have effective written and verbal communication skills.Must meet the SamTrans' Good Driving Record at the time of application (see below).Additional Information
