Salary : $40,062.88 - $60,094.32 AnnuallyLocation : Monroe, NCJob Type: Full-Time RegularJob Number: 42500XDepartment: Facilities & Fleet ManagementOpening Date: 11/04/2024General StatementThe Emergency Vehicle Equipment Technician, under general supervision, installs, troubleshoots, and repairs emergency vehicle systems, including mobile radios, mobile computers, mobile in-car video systems, license plate readers, and other law enforcement vehicle equipment. Essential FunctionsResponds to reports of equipment malfunctions; troubleshoot and repair or replace equipment to restore vehicles to operation.Installs electronics into vehicles, including light bars, laptop mounts, DVRs, sirens, recording devices, remote start systems, and microphones.Upfits vehicles with a variety of equipment, including prisoner transport seating, partitions, firearm mounts, equipment storage units, modified interior/exterior panels, and K-9 equipment.Installs electrical wiring, connect electrical fittings, drill holes, and perform all physical tasks associated with modifying vehicles for the installation of electronic equipment.Designs and constructs vehicle-specific cable assemblies and sub-assemblies necessary for mobile vehicle installations.Develops wiring routes throughout vehicles to provide for the most efficient wiring paths and to enable future replacement and troubleshooting.Designs and fabricates fixtures; modifies existing equipment using mig welder, plasma cutter, lathe, and shear/brake.Performs multi-point inspections of vehicles.Keeps accurate records and maintains an orderly work environment and sufficient equipment stock levels.Performs other duties as assigned. QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation and Experience:Two years of full time experience in the automotive field with exposure to the installation of electronic equipment into vehicles involving disassembly and reassembly of vehicle components, or an associate's degree in automotive or electronic technology or related field from an accredited college or university.Licenses or Certifications:Must have a valid Driver's License and be able to maintain a safe driving history as defined by the Union County Vehicle Use Policy. Special Requirements: Responds as necessary on weekends, holidays, varying shifts, and odd hours or emergency call back. Must pass criminal background check to meet DCIN requirements.Supplemental InformationPHYSICAL DEMANDSMust be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including, a motor vehicle, computers, welder, plasma cutter, lathe, etc. Must be physically able to read and distinguish the specific colors and color codes associated with electrical wiring; possess manual dexterity and steady hands to be able to grasp and manipulate objects; and wear a respirator. Must be able to move objects weighing up to 100 pounds with assistance or by wheeled conveyance and lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted. Physical demand requirements are for Medium Work and may include climbing ladders and working in confined spaces.WORK ENVIRONMENTWork is performed in an environment where the employee may be subject to noise, vibration, and cold or hot temperatures. Benefitted part-time employees accrue prorated sick leave based on a percentage of the full-time rate. Your unused sick leave balance can be applied as creditable service toward a service retirement under the guidelines of the NCLGERS.SICK LEAVE TRANSFER FROM OTHER AGENCIES Unused sick leave earned from another North Carolina Governmental Agency and/or entity, will be accepted and transferred to the County as follows: twelve (12) sick leave days will be transferred and added to the employees active sick leave balance after completion of six (6) months of employment. The remaining balance of sick leave documented for transfer at the time of employment will be recorded in the employees permanent personnel file.
