We’re bridging two worlds, moving towards more sustainable energy sources, while helping to provide the energy, chemicals and resources needed now.This position will be based on site in Greenville, SC.Summary:As an Instrumentation and Controls Engineer with experience in the aluminum industry, you will act as a lead or expert, overseeing the installation, repair, and rebuilding of various electrical, electronic, instrumentation, and computer components. You will play a key role in ensuring plant operations run smoothly, efficiently, and safely, supporting project execution from initial design to commissioning.Responsibilities:Lead and oversee the design, installation, and maintenance of instrumentation and control systems in aluminum processing plants, including smelting, refining, and rolling operations.Supervise and coordinate a team of instrumentation and controls personnel, ensuring productivity, safety, and adherence to project timelines.Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair of complex instrumentation and control systems, including PLCs, SCADA, DCS, and HMI systems.Develop, review, and optimize control strategies for equipment and processes within the plant, ensuring efficient operation and compliance with environmental and safety standards.Lead the development of specifications, data sheets, and material requisitions for instrumentation and control systems.Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations (e.g., ISA, NEC, IEC), including proper documentation, commissioning reports, and test plans.Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including mechanical, electrical, and process engineers, to integrate instrumentation and controls into overall project designs.Provide technical support and training to maintenance staff on instrumentation and control system operation and troubleshooting.Assist with the development of new systems, processes, and tools to improve efficiency and reliability within the plant.Participate in risk assessments, HAZOP studies, and control system safety reviews to mitigate potential hazards and ensure system safety.Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation and Controls Engineering, or a related field.Minimum 15 years of experience, with experience in the aluminum industry, with a focus on instrumentation and control systems in heavy industrial environments.Strong expertise in PLC programming, SCADA systems, and distributed control systems (DCS).Proven experience with industrial automation and control system integration, preferably within large-scale aluminum plants.Hands-on experience in the installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of instrumentation and controls systems in industrial environments.Familiarity with industry-specific standards and regulations, including ISA, NEC, IEC, and OSHA guidelines.Experience managing and leading multidisciplinary teams on instrumentation and controls projects.Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead teams and provide expert guidance.Understanding of modern data-centric solutions and digital transformation initiatives, including IIoT and smart manufacturing technologies.Knowledge of process control, pneumatic systems, calibration techniques, and instrumentation maintenance practices.Moving forward togetherWe’re committed to building a diverse, inclusive and respectful workplace where everyone feels they belong, can bring themselves, and are heard.
