Summary
The Pre-surgical Testing Center APRN/PA functions as a practitioner, educator, consultant, and patient advocate, in partnership with the anesthesia department and Testing Center RNs. The PSTC APRN/PA provides anesthesia and surgical preoperative assessment and instruction to all adult and pediatric patients undergoing a surgical procedure.
Education
Five to six years of formal training or education (Family Medicine or Adult Medicine) beyond the high school level (e.g., Masters Degree or five-year program). Specialty Certification related to Perioperative Nursing desired (CAPA/CPAN/CNOR).
Certification, Registration & Licensure
Licensure required: New Hampshire Advanced Provider License (APRN or PA) and DEA license.
Certification required: Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification, or equivalent course credentialed by American Heart Association.
Experience
None required; experience in acute care or perianesthesia clinical nursing desired.
Responsibilities
* Obtains patient health history, anesthesia assessment, and/or physical examination.* Orders and interprets diagnostic tests.
* Evaluates acute and chronic medical problems as they relate to the patient's perioperative course within
the scope of practice.
* Orders and manages medications within the practice standards in preparation for or during the
preoperative phase of patient care.
* Provides pre-anesthesia screenings and patient education according to departmental guidelines.
* Documents care provided in the medical record according to practice/department standards.
* Performs job specific requirements and other duties as assigned.
