Surgical Stepdown is a fast-paced department that has the opportunity to care for a large of variety of medical diagnoses. Our typical patients range from complex surgeries to traumas, withdrawals and most things in between. Surgical Stepdown works closely with Mercy South surgeons, hospitalists and therapy services to use a multidisciplinary approach to assisting our patients in returning to their prior level of function. Surgical Stepdown is an excellent department to gain skills, knowledge and confidence.This unit requires excellent critical thinking skills and quick decision-making abilitiesDue to the diverse nature of this unit, the educational opportunities are endless for our coworkers.29 – patient bed unitRN ratio 3-4 patients, with tech support24/7 Leadership supportCollaborate daily with Care Management team, RT, PT, ST and OT, Lab, Pharmacy, Transport Team and the Surgical ServicesFor additional questions please reach out to Michelle Simmonds at

Graduate of an accredited registered professional nursing programLicensure:
