The Physician Assistant practices as a direct patient healthcare provider under the supervision of a physician. They work with patients and their families to coordinate the delivery of care.

This includes but is not limited to the assessment, diagnosis, and evaluation of clients throughout the established plan of care. The Physician Assistant shall obtain health histories and perform physical examinations, order appropriate diagnostic test and treatment regimens, prepares and consents patients for procedures, assists a team of vascular surgeons as needed in the operating room, cath lab or other procedural settings, provides patient care in the in-patient setting, takes first call on some nights and weekends, and provides education to patients, families, and departmental staff as needed. The Physician Assistant will practice within the guidelines of the South Carolina Board of Medical Examiners and perform other duties as assigned.

**Experience**

Minimum of two years PA experience preferred

Four years previous healthcare experience preferred

**Education**

Degree in an accredited physician assistant program

Successfully completed an educational program for physician assistants approved by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant or its predecessor or successor organization

**Licensure and Certification**

Current licensure with South Carolina Board of Medical Examiners in good standing to practice as a Physician Assistant required.

Current NCCPA certification required

Current state and federal DEA registration required

American Heart Association Healthcare provider course with Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required to be initially completed with the GHS Staff Development Office within 30 calendar days of hire date (exceptions to obtain certification from a provider other than the GHS Staff Development Office are approved by Staff development on a case by case basis).

BLS Recertification is required every two years. ACLS preferred.

**Medium Physical Agility Test Rating Required (PAT)**

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently (activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) required to stand, sit, and walk; occasionally (activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) to use hands, fingers; and frequently to talk or hear. The employee must exert 20 to 35 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 15 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. GHS will determine physical competency through post offer Physical Agility testing of a "medium" rating.

May be exposed to infectious specimens, and soiled laundry, however, potential for personal harm or injury is limited when proper safety and health precautions are followed.
