Position Summary:
The School Bus Driver is responsible for the safe, timely, and professional transportation of students to and from school, field trips, and extracurricular events. Following state and district policies, the driver ensures a secure environment and maintains a positive rapport with students, school staff, parents, and the community.
Key Responsibilities:
Transportation Duties
Operate a school bus safely along assigned routes to transport students to/from school, field trips, and extracurricular activities.
Follow all state/local traffic laws and school district transportation policies, adapting to road closures or weather as necessary.
Maintain adherence to the predetermined schedule to ensure timely arrivals and departures.
Safety and Supervision
Perform pre- and post-trip inspections to confirm the bus is in safe operating condition.
Enforce safety protocols and behavioral guidelines on the bus, ensuring students adhere to seating and noise level rules.
Assist students with disabilities or special needs, supporting them with boarding, seating, and exiting as needed.
Communication
Report delays, incidents, or other issues to the transportation supervisor or school administration immediately.
Communicate respectfully and effectively with students, parents, and school staff regarding transportation-related topics.
Maintain the confidentiality of all student information at all times.
Vehicle Maintenance and Reporting
Perform routine cleaning of the bus interior to keep a clean and inviting environment.
Report mechanical issues to the designated personnel and complete required maintenance logs.
Accurately document student counts, route logs, and any other required information.
Qualifications:
Licensing:
Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsement as required by Iowa state law.
Experience:
Experience driving buses or large vehicles is preferred but not required; new drivers will receive training.
Background Check:
Completion of a background check and maintenance of a clean driving record are mandatory.

Ability to maintain a reliable schedule with punctual attendance.
