The Senior Manager, Business Development works with key attorneys in the firm's 280-attorney Litigation Department to expand existing client relationships, generate new prospecting opportunities, and drive profitable revenue growth. Working closely with senior partners and practice group leaders, this position will provide senior-level strategic planning and execution across internal and external marketing channels. The Senior Manager, Business Development will focus on priority client development initiatives related to complex commercial disputes, construction and real estate litigation, government investigations and white-collar defense, intellectual property, labor and employment, and privacy and technology.

Boston, MA; Los Angeles, CA; New York City, NY; Washington, DC Work with the Department Head, Practice Group and Team Leaders to develop business development/strategic plans for the practice groups and teams. Participate in discussions about the development and implementation of the business plan. Identify opportunities/strategies to grow business through expanding existing client work, identifying new opportunities and driving cross-selling. Track and report results. Work closely with practice group and team leaders to identify opportunities to increase visibility for the practice groups and teams. Proactively seek opportunities for pitches/proposals, presentations, seminars, appropriate affiliations, events (both NP and external), marketing materials, and other targeted methods that drive new business development and cross-selling. Participate and contribute to department, practice group, team, and industry initiative meetings. Play an active role in the meetings, inclusive of tracking follow-up activities. Work with the firm's Proposal and Competitive Intelligence teams to conduct research and obtain market intelligence on industries, trade associations, clients, and prospects, to prepare tailored pitches, and proposals. Prepare tailored responses to RFPs, RFIs and RFQs, from initial intake through final submission. Track and report results. Mentor and manage the assigned business development teams supporting practice groups and teams. Ensure the marketing and business development activities in those groups are aligned with the department and firm goals. Collaborate closely with other practice and integrated marketing and business development team members to ensure marketing and business development plans integrate with and support assigned department, office and firmwide strategies. Collaborate with other firm departments, including Communications & Design, Human Resources, Finance, and Attorney Development and Retention on initiatives and projects as needed. Work with Communications to develop strategies and written communications, press releases, social media postings, etc. to promote the practice groups, teams and firm's successes. Develop and maintain collateral materials including representative experience, practice area and team descriptions/brochures, and website content. Assist in the development of business development curriculum working with Department Head and/or Practice Group Leaders, Director of Practice Management and the Attorney Development and Retention team. Develop and monitor budgets for the assigned practice groups and teams. Incorporate knowledge of relevant industries, market intelligence and business practices into firmwide business strategies; anticipate client needs and trends; and develop responsive solutions to support practice groups and individual attorneys. Develop strong, responsive relationships with the department, practice groups, teams, clients, and industry group leaders. Network and forge relationships with referral sources and relevant industry organizations to assist in driving revenue. Attend industry networking events and conferences. Track market intelligence that informs the business development strategy. Frequent travel to other offices as required. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum of 10-12 years of progressive marketing experience, including 5 years leadership experience in a national law firm and/or professional services environment. Bachelor's Degree required. MBA a plus. Client driven team player. Takes ownership of projects and knows how to fully utilize resources. Must be detail oriented, proactive, self-directed, and able to multi-task effectively in a fast paced and complex environment. Strong business acumen. Creative, forward thinker capable of bringing new ideas to practice areas and client service teams. Results oriented team player with ability to develop deep knowledge of sources of business and resources (e.g. professional organizations, publications, referral sources) for the practice area. Clear and effective communication, both verbal and written. Share information in a concise, thoughtful and courteous manner. Able to work effectively with a diverse group of clients (attorneys, professional staff, etc.). Creative, collaborative, and discreet; ability to build positive business relationships, both internally and externally. Completes projects in a timely manner while maintaining a high level of excellence. Has a strong grasp of competitive intelligence and other research tools. Proven ability to strategize, plan and execute business development programs and other revenue generating initiatives and events. Strong leadership, management and mentoring capabilities. Coaching and client-service skills. Must be a self-starter who knows how to motivate people and has a positive attitude. Must be willing and able to "rollup the sleeves" and handle any aspect (from administrative to supervisory) of the marketing and business development task at hand to accomplish the job, including, as necessary, providing assistance for other marketing projects that may be initiated out of another department or office. In accordance with applicable Federal and State laws, the anticipated annual salary range for this position, depending on location, is as follows: Boston, MA: $121,749 to $180,749 Los Angeles, CA: $121,749 to $180,749 New York, NY: $126,822 to $188,280 Washington, DC: $121,749 to $180,749 In addition to a standard benefits package, this role may be eligible for additional contingent compensation based on an array of factors, including but not limited to: work performance, geographic location, work experience, education, and qualifications. Because such contingent compensation is not yet calculable or may be zero ($0) in some circumstances, the above-listed salary range is Nixon Peabody's good faith estimate of the annual salary it reasonably expects to pay for the position at the time of this posting.
