Job Overview:

A law firm seeks a highly qualified Patent Attorney or Patent Agent to join its growing intellectual property practice in Boston, MA. This role focuses on drafting and prosecuting U.S. patent applications and managing patent prosecution in foreign jurisdictions, primarily within the biotech and life sciences sectors. The ideal candidate will work closely with a collaborative, collegial team to provide strategic intellectual property solutions for clients while contributing to the firm's international growth. This position offers professional development opportunities in a dynamic and expanding practice.Duties:Prepare and prosecute U.S. patent applications across various technologies in the life sciences, including nucleic acid therapeutics, immunotherapeutics, and delivery vectors.Manage patent prosecution in foreign jurisdictions, ensuring global patent protection for client innovations.Collaborate with colleagues to create and implement intellectual property strategies that align with clients' business goals.Review and assess scientific and technical information for patent drafting and prosecution.Communicate effectively with clients and team members, providing updates and advice on patent-related matters.Support clients throughout the lifecycle of their patents, from initial filings to enforcement and monetization strategies.Requirements:A minimum of 5 years of experience with patent preparation and prosecution, particularly in the biotech/life sciences sector.Extensive experience drafting and prosecuting U.S. patent applications.Strong understanding of foreign patent prosecution processes.Ability to work with a range of biotech/life science technologies, including therapeutics and delivery systems.Organic chemistry knowledge is a plus but not required.Education:Ph.D. in a life sciences discipline (e.g., biology, cell & molecular biology, immunology, genetics, biochemistry, or biomedical engineering).Certifications:Admission to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (required).Attorney candidates: Licensed and in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.Skills:Excellent scientific and technical aptitude with strong patent drafting and prosecution skills.Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities for effective interaction with both internal teams and clients.Ability to synthesize partner-level instructions and guide junior associates towards successful client outcomes.A collaborative, team-oriented mindset with a desire to continuously learn and grow within the firm.This role is ideal for a motivated and experienced patent attorney or agent seeking to advance their career in intellectual property law, particularly within the biotech and life sciences sectors.
