Mott MacDonald is currently seeking a rolling stock Principal Project Manager/Vehicle Engineer to manage and lead key rolling stock projects and support business growth in North America. This candidate will be based in our Los Angeles, CA office and will be responsible for the following:
Providing rolling stock project management and technical expertise to external and internal clients
Overseeing the management of contract budgets
Monitoring the progress of projects and working with clients and stakeholders to resolve critical technical issues
Strategic consultant advice and planning providing solutions for rail fleet expansion, upgrade, procurement, and new technologies
Maintaining and building client relationships to grow the business
Providing strategic advice and oversight of vehicle procurement, and performance improvement projects
Collaborating with other disciplines to ensure rolling stock integration is addressed
Candidate Specification:
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent and Professional Engineer (PE) registration or equivalent is preferred
Must have 15-years minimum experience as a senior rolling stock manager/engineer
Experienced with rail vehicle procurement, specification development, general engineering, design reviews, systems integration and the management of general engineering task orientated programs. Testing and commissioning, quality assurance, maintenance, overhaul, and operational experience would be seen as a benefit
Experienced with various rail modes, vehicle types, and suppliers
Must have excellent communication skills, and experience in:
client representation
managing contract budgets
project management
procurement
design review
asset management
systems integration
producing technical specifications and report writing
general knowledge and appreciation of recognized industry standards and best practice related to rail vehicles
developing proposals to provide engineering services and technical support
Ability to be flexible and work both autonomously and within a team
Capacity to effectively work in a dynamic environment dealing with multiple disciplines and tasks

Salary Range: $155,000 - $188,000
