Position Objective:
Provide services as a Scientist in support of the overall functions of the Vaccine Research Center (VRC), Virology Laboratory (VL), Virology Core Section (VCS) within the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). Virology Core scientist position involves designing, conducting, and interpreting experiments to support VRC antibody discovery and product development programs. Duties and Responsibilities: Design of experiments to utilizing rodent and non-human primate models to study vivo pharmacokinetic (PK) studies of monoclonal antibodies. Design and execution of experimental approaches to characterize monoclonal antibodies, including binding (ELISA and related techniques), measures of antibody affinity (biolayer interferometry or surface plasmon resonance approaches), and functional assays (including antibody-neutralization studies). Conduct animal studies to evaluate the immunogenicity of vaccines (including intramuscular, subcutaneous, intraperitoneal, and intravenous injection, sample collection and processing). Discover and characterize monoclonal antibodies. Monoclonal antibody production and purification from mammalian cells. Viral pseudotype or infectious virus production and characterization for use in antibody characterization studies. Perform maintenance for multiple cell culture lines used in laboratory experiments. Perform flow cytometry experiments. Manage colonies of mouse strains for studying antibody PK and VRC vaccine development programs. Represent the Virology Core at internal virtual product development meetings to provide subject matter expertise on antibody development and PK. Provide expert PK analysis in support of VRC regulatory submissions. Participate in the management and safe operation of the Virology Core laboratory including the maintenance of accurate records, inventories, shipping of biological materials, ordering, and training. Basic Qualifications: Ph.D. in a relevant biomedical field with (3) years of experience of laboratory experience. Demonstrable expertise in laboratory studies involving antibody or biological pharmacokinetics. Expertise in the design of experiments to utilizing rodent and non-human primate models to study vivo pharmacokinetic (PK) studies of monoclonal antibodies. Demonstrable experience with small animal models. Expertise in the design and execution of experimental approaches to characterize monoclonal antibodies, including binding (ELISA and related techniques), measures of antibody affinity (biolayer interferometry or surface plasmon resonance approaches), and functional assays (including antibody-neutralization studies). Expertise in monoclonal antibody production and purification from mammalian cells. Detailed knowledge of pharmacokinetics, PK modeling, and the use of related data analysis tools (Phoenix WinNonlin, R, NONMEM, or other pharmacokinetic, modeling and data visualizations software). Willingness to work with infectious pathogens using BSL-2 containment.
