Orientation and Mobility Specialist | 24-25 School Year

The Teacher Orientation and Mobility (O&M) Specialist provides students with appropriate learning experiences and activities designed to help them in social, intellectual, and emotional growth. The Teacher Orientation and Mobility enable students to develop competencies and skills to function in a successful and positive manner and teach students with visual impairments to safely and independently navigate their environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Instructs students with visual impairments to be mobile in a proficient and safe manner in all environmentsConsults with teachers, parents, and school support staff to ensure that home and classroom environments are properly modified and/or adapted for Amergisization of independence in mobilityDevelops orientation and mobility plans to meet IEP goalsPrepares lessons that accommodate learning stylesAssists in the selection of instructional materials and equipmentEvaluates student learning styles and use results to plan educational activitiesConducts assessments of student progress and achievement using testing methodologyCompiles reports, records, and documents as requiredConducts conferences with parents, teachers, students, and other school district staffFollows School and Amergis District policies and proceduresTrains support staff, parents and other personnel to incorporate orientation and mobility techniques into daily classroom routineMinimum Requirements:
Valid state teaching certificate as required by state regulationsMinimum of one year experience in learning environment preferredComplies with all relevant professional standards of practiceParticipation and completion of Amergis’ Competency program when applicableCurrent CPR if applicableTB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicableCurrent Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)Must meet all federal, state and local requirementsSuccessful completion of new hire training as applicable to job siteUnderstand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirementsAbility to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is requiredComputer proficiency requiredMust be at least 18 years of ageBenefits
