Xavier University seeks a dynamic and experienced professional for a full-time Teaching Professor and Program Director position to develop and lead our new online Master’s degree and Graduate Certificate programs in Instructional Design. The position has a preferred January 2025 start.
The Program Director will provide academic leadership for the program, including overseeing curriculum development, program assessment, course scheduling, and staffing. Additional responsibilities include:
Teaching up to three 3-credit courses per semester within the program.
Engaging in student recruitment, evaluating applications, and making admissions decisions.
Advising and mentoring students, including guiding capstone projects.
Coordinating practicum experiences in collaboration with the Instructional Design and Technology department.
Participating in departmental, college, and university meetings and serving on relevant committees.
This is a 9-month teaching position with additional program director responsibilities and optional summer teaching opportunities during summer months. The position is renewable on a yearly basis, with the potential after six years for promotion to Senior Teaching Professor with a rolling two-year renewable contract. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Note: There will be no teaching duties for Spring or Fall 2025 to allow for focus on program and course development and the expected program launch in Spring 2026.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
Doctorate in instructional design, learning design, learning sciences, or closely related field from an accredited institution, no later than August 2025.
Professional experience in instructional design.
Experience designing and teaching online courses.
Proven record in designing engaging and effective online learning experiences tailored to adult learners utilizing evidence-based and innovative instructional strategies.
Preferred:
Demonstrated experience in administrating and strategically developing online learning programs, including student recruitment, course scheduling, and program evaluation.
Expertise in one or more of the following areas relevant to the program’s curriculum:
Digital Accessibility (e.g., Universal Design for Learning)
Assessment and Program Evaluation
Emerging Technologies (e.g., AR, VR, AI, gamification)
Design Thinking and Project Management
User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI) design
Multimedia Design, including tools such as Articulate Rise 360, H5P, and Cidilabs
Game Design, Coding, and AI-Enhanced Learning
Learning Management Systems
Quality Matters or similar frameworks/certifications for online course quality assurance
Ability to align the program with educational and industry needs.
Experience advising, mentoring, and providing career coaching, including portfolio development, in the field of instructional design.
Active involvement in professional organizations related to the field.
